I have to say that was awesome. I hear the new HALO novel is supposed to be about the same thing, i.e. what goes on between mission. I can only hope it's as good as this was.

I've been looking for an excuse to explain the orgins of my local chapter.. Maybe a fanfiction excuse. Heh. Good job retelling the story through the eyes of Sarge and taking a stab at describing that mysterious Command Shuttle..

I wasn't being blasphemous. Allow me to explain.
I attempted to ask the meaning of that arrow followed by a three (you know, that symbol that always comes up when Brian Morden is mentioned), but it would not let me post it.
So, what does it mean?

To address the top of the list thing, it does not mean the story won something, its just a placement thing.
Whatever goes on the bottom of the list at the main news page, will go on the top on the fan fiction page. Likely something to do with the set-up Louis has got going. I believe its based off the date and time of the story submission.
The more recent your submission is, the more likely it is to be at the bottom of the news page list, and at the top of the fan fiction list.

But yea, I found it irritating that at the moment I started writing the ffn section stopped being updated, but if I said I blamed the guy, I'd be lying. I know if I were him I would have jumped off some very tall structure long ago.

Don't worry about it TM, if you had to keep formatting people's fan fics non-stop for three years, for no pay, wouldn't you want a break. The ffn section will be opened in time. In the meantime, start writing another series, and have it waiting for when louis opens it back up. :)

Be careful Aurthur, my old mucker, or I might jolly well be jumped into using my cracking whole knowledge of English English upon you fellows!
'Chuffed' means flattered, though I've never heard anyone use the term 'cloddish'
And I don't think el_halo_diablo was being uncivil, I just hope he wasn't stirred into making the comment because he mistook my jokey mock-arrogance for genuine arrogance.
|
Arthur Wellesly
4:30 pm | February 20, 2003
Hahaha, TM, I love English history, but I don't pretend to like some of their meals or, in this case, understand some of their terms.
In short, what does "chuffed" mean in this context?
And to El Halo Diablo, don't you think we should keep this civil? Even in my comments section when people were bombarding the poor old Americans with untasteful comments, I wasn't quite so "cloddish", as TM might say.

Well, we'll just see how grand it is once it's off the front page TM. If it still gets posts then I'll give a short to applaude you. In fact, my old comedy "Mis-Adventures of Master Chief" still gets replies every once in a while, funny thing is, it's like 14-17 pages back I think(it was posted in August). Man I can't wait until the ffn section is opened back up again, i'm looking forward to new material.

To: el_halo_diablo I was just using a little bit of mock-arrogant humour, e_h_d. Make no mistake, I haven't convinced myself I've written an epic or something, I was just joking.
But cheers, I'll go and read 'Misadventurs of MC' and update your collection of comments!

Yes, he is Stacker, I get the feeling, 101, that you didn't read the WHOLE story when you made your first comment...
And yes, the story is still here, I'm benefitting from the fan fiction overhaul LWu is having. (OR MAYBE IT's 'CAUSE THE STORY IS SO DAMN GOOD!!! Ahem...)

firstly, all i can say is.....DUDE!.....simply incredible. It's been an ongoin discussion between my friends and I about what happens to the marines between the times when you interact with them in the game. You captured the feel of weariness of the sergeant, and his loss of hope. This story made me feel like you had consultation from bungie! You capture the readers' attention from the beginning and take them on a wild ride without letting go! This has inspired me to follow up on my own halo writing abitions. keep up the good work and I hope to see more sagas from the halo universe soon!

After reading this wounderful piece of writing all I can say is, WHOA! I loved every sentence of it. I would have loved it even more had the Sarge somehow survived and made it out. It could have gone on to the part up to the Legendary Ending, where he is still struggling with an elite. I thought that was going to happen, but I guess you wanted a bit of surprise in there. Either way, you filled my brain with hours of enjoyment. Thank You.

Whoa! Talk about your awsome stories. I actually started reading it at lunch time, and I got so caught up I was late for school. Your story is as well written and as well thought of as your comments, Marine. Kudos. My two favorite parts had to be the conversation between Johnson and Stacker. It was a very natural, flowing piece of writing which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also loved how well you did the ending. The fear that must have been going through the Marines was done so well in your story that it actually had my heart pounding. The best thing overall was how well you made it flow. I thought any story that followed the Halo story so closely would be predictable and choppy, but you made it so original and well written that had there been no game called "Halo", I would have instantly believed that your plot was your completely of your own making. It takes a certain type of person to do that as effectively as you did. I believe in constructive criticism, but I am sitting here and I can think of few things that were wrong in your story. Frankly, the only minor detail that was slightly off was that a Lieutenant addressed Sergeant Johnson as "sir", but nobody addresses a NCO as "sir", especially not a Lieutenant, who is, in fact, an officer. However this has nothing to do with your writing, which was both fluent and powerful. This was absolutely the best piece of writing from a non-professional author I have ever had the privilege of reading. I look forward to any other stories written by you in the future.

ACK!! I ASKED Louis to just put Under The Sergeant's Cap as the title.
Everyone please realise this is the full story, with two NEW chapters!!! Chapters 6 and 7 are plenty of new material to keep you busy!! It was supposed to have some illustration also, but I supposed Louis couldn't put it in, (if anyone wants it then e-mail me and I'll send it them!)
The reason I sent the whole story was because chapter two is missing in my 'read this series' hyperlink.
THIS IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT A REVISION!!!

So you just HAD to revise the first 5 chapters, then cram in two new chapters? phhh! You should really try to go by the rules that Louis has constituted, also, it's a pain in the ass for ME to read :|. Anyway, Good luck on another series, hopefully it's something truly original.

You people MUST read the WHOLE thing before you say what you think! I understand el_halo_diablo and others look for more than fightscenes, and if you read it, you'll see there is much more than the above! Don't judge it on the first few paragraphs, the ending scene and an illustration, that's insulting considering the time it took to write.

To Hikaru:I suppose you mean the "space exploration is for humanity, not just Americans" thing huh?Only very ignorant people could hate a whole nation, that's a hell of a lot of people to judge when you know basically none of them. I dont think there are such ignorant people on this site, so I guess Im saying that there is no hatred as such. The title IS Under the sergeant's cap. If I'd left the chapter listing off, it would conflict with older copies of the same files. (This is one of the BIGGEST reasons we've asked for no revisions - they're a pain in the ass.)
And the pic is there, and showing - I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's exactly where you had it in the word doc you sent.
As for chapter two missing in the 'read this series' link... good lord. I have email; if I make a mistake, send me a note and I'll fix it. You mean I had to format the first 5 chapters again because you were too lazy to write and say "hey, chapter 2 isn't showing up in the series link"?
Gah.
