well the ranking structure would depend upon the branch, for example, the air regiments would have different ranks from the naval and marine groups, and naval from others etc........but........
I am not sure exactly how the marines do it, but the basic ranking goes for ground units as follows
Private-w/e class u want it to be i guess Lance Corporal Corporal *I would assume (ass+U+ME) Master Chief is ranked just above Corporal Sargeant 1st Class Staff Sergeant Master Sargeant ----i'm not positive about these two, and i am not sure if Sargeant major is consider to be like a sargeant, or above Captain under Major
NOW TO THE COMMISIONED OFFICERS! THE STUPID PIGS THAT WENT TO COLLEGE!
2nd Lieutenant 1st Lieutenant Captain Major Lt Colonel Colonel General? idk what exactly its called Brigadier General? Major General?
of course in the marines there are a lot more ranks but this is just basic.....in two years ask me i should know all of the army ranks
mmmm yes, Echelon is in fact a formation, its generally used as a air fighter formation, extremely common it looks like this
. . . .
IDk if that helps you any

Guy in the Hole

Since I live in a hole and so am always hungering for knowledge I was wondering if someone could answer a question I have been pondering about: I was just siiting around the other day when SMACK! A Halo book fell into my hole. I read it and of course i liked it, but i'm unsure about some of the tech. Could anyone give me the 411 about military ranking structure for all the braches in Halo, if you don't want to post it up here just post the URL of somewhere i can find it.
OH NO!

Good story. I like it quite a bit. lingo and such, "Echelon formation," I'm not sure if it's a real formation, or if you made it up, but describe it. I like the story as i said before. Keep'em coming.
