Okay, here you go: The Ion Pulse Cannon discharges a violent wave of charged particles designed to overload ship shields and control systems, disabling them.
I don't understand the confusion Wiley, we are talking about the same thing. The ONLY reason that the battlesuit's systems survived the Ion Pulse cannon in the story was that it never was hit by the cannon. The ship's shields and systems absorbed the damage before it ever got to the battlesuit.
Or maybe you understood all that and I'm just confused.

From reading the Star Wars: X-Wing series my logic dictates that an ION cannon would also fry the shields, disrupting the generator....or somesuch. Although, i guess it would be pretty easy to sheild a suit such as that from radiation/electricity....espevially in the HALO time..

Good logic Wiley, that is exactly what I thought. If it wasn't clear, the AI and Captain were in a battlesuit with functioning shields at the time. The ION cannon destroyed the ship's shields but did not get through the battlesuit's shields as the battlesuit was inside the ship. So the battlesuit's shields saved the AI and the Captain.

Hmmm...I was reading the story again and noticed this little bit: If the weapon was indeed an Ion gun, don't you think the A.I. would have been affected in some way or another? Ions are the basis of electricty, and uncontrolled electricity and computers have never really mixed well...past experiences of mine can verify that (long story)
Just a point..of course, my idea will probaly be shot down by wiser minds...but hey, had to get it out there.

You guys are cracking me up :)
The only worth that matters is your worth to yourself. Enjoy your writing, write for yourself. You can't please everyone, so make it something YOU are proud of.
