Wow, that's the kinda thing I'd expect from Ray Bradbury. Ten-ten. It'd be even funnier if they were regular ants, and reacted with the Covenant so badly that they caused Elites to shrivel up, Grunts to explode, and Jackals to drop down dead. Dang... that'd make a good series, if you would write it:
"The Ants".

That was great! Excellent writing as you have the Elite recount the story from an interview/debriefing point of view - the Elite thinking that the whole thing was some kind of biological attack on them. Nice little twist at the end with the ants being an accidental thing.
One small point - you mention the elite firing a pistol with bullets - That sounds more like a human projectile weapon that a Covenant type thing. (Yes I know that the Covie do have projectile weapons like the Needler)
Overall: 9/10
