Bah! Widescreen?
My friend moved to the beach, since he's rich (Porsches, Harley Davidsons-they got the works).
Anyway, they have a 72" tall plasma screen TV (not sure how wide it is, but its REALLY big). THey also have speakers EVERYWHERE-as in the floor, the comfy leather chairs, the walls, the ceiling-everywhere. We watched Black Hawk Down, MI-2, etc.-basically every movie with big explosions. When the explosions actually went off, they shook your teeth, rattled your bones, and made you wonder whether there was a bombing outside. KILLER! I couldn't hear anything for a week, but it was WORTH IT TO THE FULLEST.
Yeah...I love being off-subject. The story STILL rocks, by the way.

I have a confession...I didn't like Saving Private Ryan. I know...I'm a freak.

Good point, Walker.
The movie still rocked. I don't care what you say. It was a great movie, great acting, great editing, great soundtrack, great cinamatography, great everything.

The book was a Clinton apology hidden under the veil of a war tale, thus it was too much politics and too little of the real thing. I like the actual soldier's stories; they don't hold anything back. Mike Durant wrote a great book.

Stranger in a Strange Land was a really weird book... Actually, the best thing Heinlein wrote wasn't a novel, it was a short-story/novella called "Universe."

Yea i read Ender's Game that was a good book, a little confusing but good. I'm gonna steal Rainbow six from my friend and hit that up this summer.

And yes, I got the idea for Rune from Dune, even though I haven't read or seen the movies. I just like the desert planet.
Also, at one point, I mention there are ix ghosts, but later on, after an elite dies, there are still six people. My bad.'

You can't forget Orson Scott Card. Even though Enders Game was confusing as all hell knows what at the end. Also, the X-Wing series is some of the best space fighter combat written. I have all 9 that are out, except for 7, which is so tattared that I can barly consider it a book. ive read all of them multiple times, numbers six and four probably more times than Ive read all three Halo novels put together. i love Star Wars, if you hadn't figured that out.
Also, if you want THE good military fiction, Tom Clancy is still THE man. Red Storm Rising, The Hunt for Red October, Rainbow Six, SSN, and The Cardinal of the Kremlin(for teh spy buffs)
Read Rainbow Six if you want to get a good handle on special forces, Red Storm rising if you like massive-all-out-balls-to-the-wall combat, SSN and Hunt for Red October for submarine warfare(Hunt for Red October you should read anyway.) If you want the skinny on all the Cloak-and-daggar stuff, read The Cardnial of the Kremlin, without Remorse, Sum of all Fears, and maybe Clear and Present Danger.
Anyway, Its late, im hungry, and i needa take a leak. So im goanna take care of business. I'll continue this tomorrow..or later today if you wanna be technical.

The title has a duel meaning. It means both where he hid, and that he put people to "sleep".
But you know that...don't you!

Thanks guys. I got bored at 1:00 in the morning, and wanted to write because I hadn't. That's probably why there's a couple simple mistakes.
I'll try harder next time to get rid of those.

Yes, this was all in all a good story. A few Grammatical boo-boos. (I'll leave them for you to sort out) but it showed perfectly how the Chief never talks as he kills.
The Chief is pretty well portrayed. He only talks to Cortana, and everything he says is short and to-the-point.

There's a reason why Starship Troopers is required reading for Marine OCS...
Sorry for using up your comment space, Main.

Main, you are the man. This was awesome, and I especially liked the way you perfectly matched a Covie Elite's personality. The ego, the holier-than-Grunts attitude...GREATNESS.
"scowering" is spelled "scouring". And I think you meant "rubbed them the WRONG way", not "right".
Anyway, the detail you put into every lovingly-crafted paragraph made me drool with envy. The Citadel idea was spectacular, and I didn't see any places where you screwed up with Covenant lingo/places. Most people are idiots, and have Grunts call Elites "sir", and stuff like that.
Also, you spelled explosion 'axplosion', and how can there be 'a silent snap of bones'?
I like how you seperated the time between blinks, too. Brilliant!
Glad you wrote this..enjoyed it immensely. 9.2/10.

Nah, Heinlein all the way!
Starship Troopers The Moon is a Harsh Mistress The Puppet Masters The Door Into Summer Double Star Stranger in a Strange Land*
Read these and you will have gained a true understanding of the origins of Science Fiction.
Asimov, you got nothin' on Heinlein!

Nick, you need to read the BOOK "Dune." The TV movie just stank, in my opinion. It's no LOTR. The book remains to this day, however, awesome. Makes me wonder what could have happened had Frank Herbert been able to write the Halo-Fictions... (FOR, FS)

I thought this story was awesome. And yeah, similarities to Frank Herbert's masterpiece (the sequels don't count) abound.

Rune=Dune, which reminds me. In the story, the Chief pops out of the ground and kills the Elites. In the movie 'Dune', the Fremen warriors pop out of the ground and kill the Harkonen soldiers with their pointy knives.
Anyway, the story was awesome, as usual, but I got a little confused at some parts of it.

Rune, a desert planet, sounds like Dune, a desert planet. The Citadel, a military school, sounds like the Citadel, a military school. And this story, written by Mainevent, sounds like it rocks! 9.5/10.
Keep it up.
