This poem was written by col.Riley Harrison the C.O. of C Company 145th Regiment of the 82nd ODST Division
for every veteran we lose a green marine will take his place on the line
when they arrive the men bet on how long he'll last most do not survive the first week
only a few of the veterans get to know there names for they know tomorrow they will probably die
it is not because they do not care it is only because they have lost so many friends
the Greens are sent on there first patrol 8 of them with 8 Veterans when they return there faces grim horror in there eyes
of the eight new men that went out that night only 5 came back alive
i can here a marine crying in his bunk for he knows that him and his friends will probably not come out of this alive
but in the morning i take them aside and tell not to worry they'll make it out alive
that day we took half the town from the filthy hands of the blood thirsty brutes but once again we lost some men and i had to tell their familys they did not make it out alive
i can here the beast's getting ready for a charge i must see my men and man my gun if i do not return who ever reads this will know that i did not make it back alive
Col. Harrison did not live through the night he was killed by a brute spiker shot through the neck but the men held on and beat back the brutes and at last the town was one
