Shell Shock -Chapter 1 by: Myth
Tyrell Fitzgerald, Shifty Patterson and Collin Borne ran down the long corridors of the Samurai, killing a detachment of covenant troopers. Shifty unleashed a fury of MA6B slugs upon a gold armored veteran. The black clad Elites behind him activated energy lances and rushed forward. Fitzgerald and Borne knelt and fired with their assault rifles. "One down- two! Oh yeah!" Borne called, his thick Australian accent revealing itself. Tyrell slid a flesh magazine home and crouched, securing a door. Davidson and Scott, both firing M90 shotguns, backed through a closing blast door. Another human made a desperate leap and made it into the room, beating the threatening heavy door. Stocks, Barnes, Brant, and Jones just entered via the access tunnels. Sergeant Ryan and his four man squad followed. "Ell-tee! The squad's is ready to roll sir!" Fitzgerald called to Conner Davidson. The marines filed into their pelicans, and secured their harnesses. The airlocks slowly shut, and the troopships departed back towards Earth. Lt. Jamie O'Brian landed the pelican on an aircraft carrier in the Hudson Bay. After the team reported in, Echo 205 loaded up and jetted towards her objective. Tyrell fingered off the safety of his weapon but was interrupted by a strong jolt. The door gun opened up, and then Stocks checked the pilot. The man's head was completely engraved; blood soaked the entire dashboard and his uniform. Lance Corporal Andrew Schneider put a hand on his shoulder signaling that the time had come to leave. Schneider took over the controls and crash landed the troop craft. Barnes barked, "Open firing!" as he hurled a fragmentation grenade. The noncom blasted an Elite to his chosen afterlife, and Fitzgerald bought down another with a burst from the assault weapon. Schneider exited the pelican and took out an unsuspecting Brute. "Vat should slow him!" Andrew yelled, his German accent bellowing. "Mate, cover me!" Borne ordered to Scott and slid under a natural bunker under an overgrown root. He smiled smugly and planted the mines; Collin got up and sprinted over a few alien bodies and into a foxhole, taking cover. Tyrell watched the Covenant disappear into a red-orange ensuing explosion. Davidson and Scott decimated the survivors. "Fire team Alpha, assemble!" Master Sergeant Fitzgerald barked. Sergeant Jeremy Ryan, Stocks and Schneider, took the LRV Warthog that had survived the crash. Tyrell watched the 'hog speed towards the already growing city.
Jeremy caught two purple aircraft in his peripheral vision. The Covenant dropships descended awhile away from the LRV, yet the troopship's soldiers were bound to be headed to the crash-site, Ryan forced himself to get to the city. The Warthog sped in, rushing by a cautious firing squad of soldiers, "What the- Stocks was cut off by a well-aimed fuel rod blast. The plasma heavy round bashed the Warthog over, spilling all three humans. Jeremy was the first one up and had recovered his assault rifle, firing knelt down. Schneider did the same, swearing in German as the Hunter charged. Stocks eyed the Hunter with his S2 AM and fired. The MA5B rounds merely pinged off the powerful armor, but the 14.5mm round tore through the neck of the alien and felled him. The starboard side of the LRV was partially melted, the olive green paint peeling into the puddle of melted metal and tire rubber. Ryan ran to the nearest marine team, which the other Hunter was keeping very busy. The sergeant squeezed the trigger and peppered the leathery neck and back. "Good to see you sir!" a friendly private called to him. Jeremy smiled and nodded. "Who's your CO Private?" the noncom asked. "I guess that would be me." One corporal raised his hand. Jeremy swore under his breath. A small, scorched barricade sat to the right and a Warthog, which only had the back end, protected the left. Ryan could see a few chain gun emplacements, but the operators lay in various locations. "Hold up, mate." Scott said raising his rifle. Three shots echoed off the plasma burned buildings.
Tyrell fired a long ten round burst, and the combatant fell. Fitzgerald dumped the empty AR, and snatched up a fallen Grunt's plasma rifle and grenades. The noncom checked his HUD in the left eye piece of the battle helmet. Energy charge read 92%, this Grunt wasn't too adventurous. Barnes tossed off his helmet and slammed a few shells into the receiver of his shotgun. Barnes wore his brown hair short and regulation, his shotgun lay on the ground as he recovered a few plasma grenades, Barnes swiped a steam of midnight red blood off his cheek, the leatherneck recovered his weapon, slinging it over his shoulder picking up a plasma rifle along with it. The rest of the team lay in some other valley fighting off covenant attempting to gain entrance to the city. Barnes and Fitzgerald were scouts but were soon separated. Tyrell led the way through fallen trees, under the wreck of a covenant dropship, and through what had been a long battle. Barnes knelt down and turned a marine over from his stomach. The leatherneck's face was partially melted off along with a two-foot slash across his torso. Five more soldiers appeared similar and a Warthog husk harbored one marine missing his legs with another without a head, which the third had been hosed with plasma from his pectorals up. Tyrell winced at their gruesome deaths and gently pried an assault weapon out of the sergeant's dead fingers. The Covenant bodies lay on the opposite side of the river were just as grisly, an Elite tank commander slumped over the hatch, and 7.62mm peppered his visor and face. "Where now Sarge?" Corp. Barnes pondered. "HUD reads the city is over this hill." After passing a team of dead Elites, the city appeared and Barnes and Fitzgerald were engulfed in a blazing firefight. The noncoms fired on the aliens, the spraying shells tearing them apart. One Elite charged, but Fitzgerald cut him down with his M9D. "Enemy forces eliminated, area secure." Barnes said.
"Covering fire! Covering fire!" One marine ordered. Jeremy fired his assault rifle at the Grunt that wielded a fuel rod gun, the creature fell with a scream as the shells punched through him. The sergeant fired the last of his clip and slapped in a new one. Jeremy rose again and luckily wasn't hit by the green plasma shot that streamed overhead. The private's head was blown off its shoulder's just then. Ryan cursed as the Corporal was sliced in half by an energy lance. Schneider fired a burst and dodged a blast, unfortunately the last member of the other firing squad was pumped with a salvo of needles, the man screamed and the explosive rounds detonated, tearing the marine into various pieces. "Vill vat hold them?" Schneider yelled as he hurled a plasma grenade into the fray. The device fused to an Elite's helm and blew him away with several other Jackals. "Fall back, fall back, dang it marines, fall back!" Jeremy called Schneider felled another Brute and spun on his heel, sprinting. Keith Barnes and Tyrell Fitzgerald continued forward. Keith saw flashes of sniper rounds fling from a nearby tree. "Jones!" Tyrell said. Lance Corporal Samuel Jones cocked his head, activating his helmet lamp, which instantly revealed Tyrell and Keith. Jones vaulted from the high branch, landing on his feet, his S2 AM barrel up and ready to fire. "Where's Davidson?" Fitzgerald asked the Corporal. Sam swung his head left, and then he drawled, "They entered the city a half hour ago." Jones slung a satchel and was ready to move. Then the unthinkable happened....... "Oh crap."
