Halo:After the Ring, the War Goes on

Part one:Hopes and Dreams Crushed
Chapter One:From the cockpit's window in the Longsword fighter, the Master Chief took one last look far off into space, where Halo once stood.He was struck with a sence of hope and guilt,for he and Cortana were the only ones to make it off the ring before it exploded.They one a tremendously important battle, but it cost them the lives of their captain,and their fellow UNSC military comrades.
Srg.Johnson, Pvt.Jenkins, Mendoza, and all the rest, destroyed along with the ring.At least he kept Cortana safe from the Covenant and the Flood.He now shook off his worries and focused his eyes on her.He knew that she was mourning and grieving just as he was.Cortana suddenly spoke to the Master Chief."Im going to send us into slip-stream space in 5 hours.I'll scan the ships database to see if I can find a nearby planet installation within reach of our jump.You better get some rest now, Master Chief." "Good work
back at the ring Cortana"the Chief said."At ease, Cortana, but if you want to, you can still continue doing your work.
You should also feel free to call me John when were both off duty."Cortana looked surprized, but after all it was his real name."Im going to rest for a while, so wake me when you've found something"John said,yawning in the process."Well Chief, it seems like we got lucky.There's a medium sized planet just outside our slip-stream jump.Its called Hygon-Alpha.From my readings it seems it's still controlled by mankind.There are no readings of Covenant vessels within orbit of the planet.After the jump we should
arrive there within 3 hours."Cortana was being cautious, since she didnt want any Covenant vessels to attack or follow them along the way to Hygon-Alpha."Very well then"John said,"im off to sleep then"the Chief called out as he headed for the cryo-tube chamber."Good night John"Cortana said.While John slept in the Cryo-bay, Cortana
monitered, checked, and rechecked the calculations in the jump,while also checking to see if any Covenant were in the area.When she was finally satisfied, she eased off and thought.It's rare to see an A.I think,but for Cortana it was an exception.She thought about her adventures with the Master Chief, Dr.Hasley, Captain Keyes, and the Covenant.Now, just as the slip-stream jump was about to start, their Longsword fighter was tracked by a covenant probe out in the middle of space.Soon after, a Covenant crusier followed them in.9 hours passed.John awoke bright and early, even though he was still depressed from the happenings on Halo.The cryo-tubes door lifted upward.John gagged up the nasty nutrient liquid he had to take in.He staggered toward the cockpit where he met Cortana."Good Morning, Chief" Cortana said, as if she was also tired and lacked sleep."Are we there yet?"the Master Chief said impatiently."Ready to land any time now." She said.Soon they were topside on the planet's surface.John noticed how simular it looked to Reach.He only hoped it wouldnt suffer the same fate as his home planet."Where are all the people at!?" John asked Cortana.It seems to me that with all the buildings destroyed,Things on fire,and the amount of dead bodies lying around I would say that the Covenant have been here...or rather are here!Chief!Im getting a reading of thousands of Covenant Jackals, Grunts, Elites, and Hunters
heading strait for us!
Chapter 2
"Quick, find a place to hide us!"Cortana said frantically.
The Master Chief spotted a huge crack in the planets crust
and decided to use it as a trench."Hopefully the enemie won't find us here."the Chief said.Suddenly, a hoard of Covenant came rushing by and shot dozens of plasma fire into the ship,destroying the one thing they had to get off this planet."Oh,great" moaned Cortana,"Now were stuck on this baron planet with thousands of Covenant looking for us.
Suddenly someone whispered from the bowels of the trench,"follow me"and without thinking, the Master Chief followed it.There seemed to be a hidden passage under the trench which lead to a massive cave-like structure.In here they saw were all the remaining humans were.They were hiding.There were 5 tables piled with weapons,and there was a battleship being repaired here.There were also First-Aid tents were the wounded were being treated.The man who helped them suddenly said"youll be safe here." "Where's the person who's in charge here?"John said.The Man Replied"I am.Allow me to introduce myself.My name is Captain Oskinov.I was a good Friend of your Commanding Officer. Keyes was his name right?" The Chief did not answer and only then did Oskinov know that John and Cortana were the only survivors.Suddenly A loud explosion rocked the cave formation."The Covenant must have found us!"Oskinov yelled.
The Master Chief grabbed a 56mhg magazine fed shotgun off the table.He reloaded his clips till they were full and awaited his natural enemie.
