TRIBE OF RAKAAR PART ONE:
BIRTH OF NOGOLDEE 'RARGADEE
Nameless planet somewhere in Covenant controlled system:
It was a strange planet, the home world of the Covenant Elites, but it was home to so many of the creature's none-the-less. The atmosphere was heavy and smelt of swamp and clean grass.
There was a rolling, sweeping grass plain and then a clump of mismatched trees that looked a little like palm trees. In the middle of the grass plain stood a huge pyramid like structure hewn from rough grey stone. It sprung from the ground so unexpectadly that it was a surprise to any other Covenant who visited the planet.
Situated around the pyramid was the cramped tribe of Rakaar, the Elite's born for combat. Those who bred and produced young were nothing more than instruments of theProphets to create the armies of the Covenant.
Despite this, all Elite young and breeder pairs in the Tribe of Rakaar were treated like sacred artifacts to be valued and treasured. It was an odd community when the civilians knew they were little more than breeding units.
Atop the roughly hewn pyramid of grey stone sat a chamber, lavishly decorated and guarded heavily by two huge, menacing Elites clad in burnished green armour. They bore vicious looking energy halberds, the blades at the end of the long alloy poles crackling with arcane plasma quartz.
An even larger Elite, wearing nothing but the scaly skin of a ferocious, indiginous carnivor climbed the mighty stairs of the pyramid. As the tribal guards heard the approaching footsteps they crossed their Energy halberds to form a fierce defence, but when they saw the mean looking creature as he appeared, they parted to let him into the darkened chamber.
The Elite was called Ferarmor 'Rargadee and he was one of the highest ranking amongst the breeders. An Elite in Teal armour greeted him as he entered.
"They're waiting. The ritual is underway," said the foreman and he stepped to the side, his head drooped in respect as 'Rargadee strode forth. He parted a light silk mirror and saw his partner laid across a stone block. There was pruple blood everywhere. The parner was motionless.
'Rargadee clicked his madibles to show anger and fear for his partner when a trio of Elites, all in teal armour appeared from behind the veil. In ones arms was a tiny creature, curled into a ball softly clicking and moving.
"Your grace, your partner has unnfortunately died during the rites. However we managed to save your son..." said the Elite and handed 'Rargadee the tiny Elite child. To a human it would've been disgusting to look upon, this tiny alien ball covered in blood, but to the tribal leader it was an honour beyond all his honours.
His new son was alive.
"What will it be called, excellency?" asked the Elite and 'Rargadee responded.
"He will be named in my honour and my grandfathers. 'Nogoldee is his name," he said, his chest swelling with pride.
"Very good excellency. The ritual is complete. Now, initiation must begin," said the foreman and he snatched the child away. 'Rargadee remembered the oath he had taken and remembered his sons induction into the Prophets holy host.
His new son was now all but dead to him.
But he ignored his feeling of disappointment and followed the foreman as he took the child away, out to a jungle plaza on the top most reaches of the pyramid.
Already the Elite child was growing in stength. Its mandibles clicked and tapped with increasing ferocity and he struggled against the powerful foreman's grasp.
Alien sunlight streamed onto the plaza as the six Elites appeared, their hooves clopping slightly on the burnished stone. There were five tribal guards standing around an azure pool of pure H20, the most prized compound on the planet and floating on a gravity belt above the pond was a lesser Prophet, the master of rites.
"'Rargadee, you are one of our most treasured breeders. Your contribution has not gone unoticed by his Lord Truth, and you have already been introduced into your families warsongs and hymns. Proceed with the ritual," exclaimed the Prophet.
As a father of twelve of the Covenant's best warriors, 'Rargadee was finally privee to the ceremonies of the rituals. He had never seen a ritual, but he had heard from his grandfather it was a dangerous ritual and the Prophet's were wrong to perform such a ritual on newborns, but 'Rargadee prayed it would be simple.
The Prophet floated and bobbed backwards slightly and waved his hand. With a swift motion, the foreman lobbed the newborn Elite high into the air and it landed with a splash in the pond.
'Rargadee screamed as he saw his newest son disappear.
