Private First Class Lionel Podman had just woken up. He stepped out into the usual morning mist of Battle Creek Outpost #14 and breathed in a lungful of air. He didn't have to worry about snipers at the moment, for the mist was so thick he could barely see the rocky landbridge strecthing out in front of him.
He cherished the moment of peace that he rarely encountered at Battle Creek Outpost #14. The air was usually filled with bullets, grenades, and plasma salvos. It was Christmas morning, but there were no trees or presents for these soldiers. The kindest thing the lieutenant would say would be, "Christmas is Merry. Protector duty you go!!"
Sometimes, Podman strongly disliked the lieutenant. He was more harsh and demanding than any other officer in his division, even Lieutenant General Pockley, who had a reputation for being strict.
The time and temperature function of his MJOLNIR armor told Podman that it was 13 degrees Celsius and 6:43 AM. It was far to early for him to be up, but after hearing the stirring of his fellow comrades, he was unable to sleep any longer.
His lieutenant had woken them all up and given them five minutes to get themselves prepared for conflict. He didn't like the sound of that at all, especially at 6:43 in the morning. He just wanted to get a good night's sleep for once. He had gone to bed at 5:00 that morning because he'd been on guard duty almost the entire night. He did his best to stay awake in the mist; the last thing he wanted was to doze off while he sat against the outer wall of the base.
Suddenly, the lieutenant stuck his head out of the base, making him snap out of his daydream.
"It starts backwards for inside," he said. "You are being a fool." "Only some more minutes, sir. It is never this calm for it are here."
The lieutenant became angry, stepping all the way out of the base this time.
"I gave a direct order to it. You start for inside, or I demote to the official larva. I need to speak to the squad."
Podman knew that it was best for him to get inside. He didn't want to be the larva: that was Private Jordan's job. He took one last glance at the misty creek, then slowly walked back inside the base.
"All the right, ladies. I have got one plan." "To make that, Sir?" said Sargeant Jenkins. "To connect the blue ones and to capture its base." "Permission to speak, gentleman," said Private Jordan, the larva. "Granted, private." "Each another plan of its always started to the little one of us killed or was gotten hurt. They never work...sir." "That it is a risk you it will have that to make examination. And you will be leaving first," he added. "Wonderful." "Us we are going to establish two teams. Team One will have Jenkins, Hardy, and Smith, the other will be Podman, Williams, and Jordan. The Team One will establish the cover of sniper in the bridge of the land when the Team Two incorporates the base. A time that team two incorporated the blue base, the team one supplies front of the cover the lateral entrance. Team one, equips itself with the rifles of sniper: you need to arise yourself in its cover before the mist cancels." "Sir, yes sir!"
The lieutenant put a hand on Podman's shoulder.
"You know what you doing," he said to Podman. "You lead them battle." "But I am right a first private class," he replied. "I cannot carry out." "I have the large faith in you. Good luck."
Everyone moved into the weapons locker. Team One grabbed SR Sniper Rifles and several clips, while Team Two equipped themselves with MA5Bs and M90s. Jordan got himself the lone rocket launcher, which was foolish because it only had two rounds left.
Team One exited the base, moving quickly and quietly. Their MJOLNIR armor was highly visible in the fading, but still thick mist, so they had to hurry. Once they'd safely reached cover, the lieutenant whispered orders.
"Hardy, starts the Active Camo, is moved then for the high one," said the lieutenant. "Yes sir."
Hardy dashed for the blue triangle, then immediately disappeared. All the remainder of Team One could make out was a ripply outline of air. He climbed up the land bridge, established a position, then scouted the base. The lieutenant set up a private line on the com.
"It has any thing it are of the base, Hardy?" "None, sir." "All the right, soldiers. It starts to the high one."
The remainder of Team One joined Hardy at the top of the land bridge. The lieutenant signalled for Podman to lead Team Two to the base.
"Here we go," he said, pointing toward the creek.
Team Two dashed to the creek. Then they split up, hurrying to the front of the base. Two were on the left side of the door, one was on the right.
"Christmas is merry!" Podman shouted. He threw a grenade inside. ________
BOOM! "What happen!!" said Sargeant Smith of the Blue Squadron. "Somebody set up us the bomb!" "No! Somebody played us one grenade!" "Mount to the attack, gentlemen!"
