Arizona Command Center a.k.a. HQ
Master Chief had just been moved to the HQ in Arizona. From there he would take a shuttle to the Corridor of Winter, one of the UNSC's last remaining cruisers, it was also the sister ship of the Pillar of Autumn. This ship has gone to Hell and back. It helped wipe out the covenant or at least they assumed.
One week later
MC had met Cortana once again. MC was on the bridge talking to the captain. The pilot saw something come into view. It was a Covenant fleet!
"Holy Shit! Captain we've got a Covenant fleet coming in!"
"That's impossible! They were destroyed." responded the captain.
MC remembered the insignia mark on the rabbit leader back at Fort Bradley. Things were becoming clear now.
MC spoke, "Wait, there was a covenant insignia on one of the rabbit leaders. What if somehow the covenant mutated these animals and used them to weaken our forces, giving the covenant their chance to fight back for their home world that we destroyed."
The Captain responded, "But they were wiped out."
Cortana responded to the Captain, "Sir what if there was another planet or this fleet was away from the planet at the time. Either one of those would explain the less resistance coming from the planet, otherwise how would we destroy the planet only losing one fourth of our attacking fleet."
MC spoke, "What if it was all a decoy to lure us away from Earth and that's when they slipped through the defenses and mutated the animals."
The pilot interrupted the conversation, "Sir they've fired their plasma cannons. Impact in 15 seconds!"
The Captain yelled, "Perform evasive maneuvers!" he turned to Master Chief "Get Cortana out of here!"
"10 seconds!"
MC responded, "Yes sir! Pilot keep the radio open to me I have an idea."
"Yes Sir, 5 seconds. We're not gonna make it! 3...2...1..."
The Corridor of Winter was hit on the starboard side and sustained heavy damage and was unable to return fire. Orders were issued for longswords to be deployed, and to evacuate the ship. The Covenant ships passed by the disabled cruiser as if it were a discarded toy. Master Chief told the bridge his idea. The bridge had to stay onboard until MC's plan was completed.
MC made his was to a hanger bay that was empty. HE received transmissions in his helmet as he walked.
Pilot: "Sir! They just folded in--inside our formation!"
Admiral: "Son, I need you to calm down."
Pilot: "...look, additional contacts - moving to engage [static]"
Admiral: "[obliterated by static] ...and get your picket back to rally point Alpha."
Master Chief picked up a battle rifle.
General: "Admiral, you can't let them maintain orbit."
Admiral: "I'm trying, general, but we've lost advantage within the lunar perimeter."
He took an elevator down to the floor with the empty hanger.
Admiral: "My frigates are combat ineffective, and the fighters... they don't have enough punch to take out a Covenant assault carrier."
General: "Your pilots let up, and down here its the goddamned apocalypse!"
He walked into the hanger as the ship took place.
General: "I'm asking you to retarget the orbitals!"
Admiral: "And let more of them slip the kill zone? That's insanity!"
Admiral: "There's nothing more I can do!"
He punched a button that opened the hanger door.
Pilot: "The core defense is too intense. Our grid is maxed, I don't think we can last another run!"
Cortana: "Admiral, tell your men to hold their positions. Reinforcements are on the spoke."
Admiral: "The entire fleet is engaged, Cortana. With respect, what the hell sort of reinforcement have you got?"
Tech: "It's passing below your position ma'am. Proximity zero."
He waited then jumped into space.
Cortana: "What if you miss...?"
Master Chief: "I wont."
He flew out of the ship and straight toward one of the covenant assault carriers. The Corridor of Winter was an awful site. Most of the starboard side had been destroyed leaving only the few lifeboats left. Both of the main engines were out of commission. She was running on the small 4 engines beside the 2 main ones. A pelican came out of the ship. It was most likely the bridge crew. MC hit the Covenant Carrier were the Shield was punctured because of longswords concentrating their attacks on that spot as MC ordered them to. His plan was going well. He went to an airlock door and overwrites the system so he can open it. He made it inside after all of the air was sucked out, then he shut the door again.
