"This is insane," thought Rundy. "All of Hong Kong's inhabitants gone. They had 1,000,000 times as many people as they had right now to fight the covenant. We have around 650 worn out and battered out men. We managed to hold off the first wave of covenant troops. Now only 580, 000 more to go before I can get some sleep.
"Covenant troops are approaching sir. They are 8 minutes away from us and they are approaching the scorpion tanks. I received word about this from a signal I picked up from a marine down there. I was also told from a commander in a pelican that was flying over head that the first line of troops were hunters, followed by jackals with shields and sniper jackals, followed by grunts, buggarts, elites, elites in wraiths, ghosts, and banshees. After he told me that I heard a loud scream and the signal went dead and all I heard was static. If I may say so sir, we have our work cut out for us." said Candez. "Im sure Gruter needs some sleep after this to," Rundy thought after hearing the news.
When Gruter was first enlisted in the UNSC, he was looking for money and action. He had always hated the covenant. He was on Reach when it fell, and his attitude was upgraded from hate to destroy when he almost lost his life to the covenant. He was stationed on Reach guarding a base there, when an invisible ultra elite came running at him and ten other people. The elite cut all ten people in half and now Gruter had to fight him alone. He was only a private. He flanked to his right and dodged his sword by mear inches. He fired his shotgun, and the elite fell right in front of him. He kept that elites sword. He had never used it up to this day. But he had a gut feeling that he might be having diced covenant for dinner. That sounded really good to him.
"Three minutes till they arrive at the extreme range of the scorpion tanks." said Candez. They were scoping out the enemy from the bottom of the mountain and radioed back to the top that the hunters already had begun firing.
"Sir," said Candez, "New information. More covenant is heading for us from the yellow river area. They want something from us, and im not sure what. UNSC estimates 420,000 more of them. They are mainly elites. I have good news for a change. 20 pelicans are heading for us and are caring about 300 men and women we can use. They managed to get through to us at top speeds. there almost out of fuel and they can only evac on the bottom of the mountain, middle cliff area, and on the very top of the base. Then they will drop the covenant a HAVOK present, 3 each pelican, courtesy of the UNSC. 1,000,000 covenant troops vs. around 950 men and women, and a lot of nukes. This is gonna be one hell of a battle.
"Hello, is anyone there," cried a voice. "Yes," this is Candez. "I run communications here at this mountain base. Were the only base for 50 miles and we are located 5 miles from the yellow river. You have a signal that is know to the UNSC but was lost. Who are you?"
"Im currently making my way up the mountain and I will be at your base in ten seconds." he said.
And with that, a spartan emerged from the holes in the bases wall. "Your a spartan!" cried Candez. "Your armor looks badly beaten and how the hell did you get to earth. I thought all the spartans were dead besides master chief." "I was drifting and space and i hijacked a covenant ship, entered slipstream, and ended up on earth. Ive been trying to keep a low profile. But i guess the covenant really want me dead after I killed 400,000 covenant across the Earth. Ive been heading this way because I needed a good place to defend myself. And I havent killed a covenant bastard in 2 and a half hours. I need some more combat time so that when I talk to master chief again I can say that he wasnt the only one blowing up aliens." the spartan said.
"Whos leading this fight today?" he asked. " That would be General Rundy and Gruter. Gruter is on the battlefield and Rundy disappeared somewhere." said Candez. "Look, the plasma is hitting things," said Candez.
"Take cover," ordered Gruter. "After it hits, FIRE!" Most of the plasma missed, most didnt even make it to the mountain side, but some hit the side of it, cutting a marines arms off. It was on.
