Fire streaked across the sky as a UNSC frigate fell after taking two hits from a Covenant capital ship. In orbit the Covenant were dominating the battle but, but planet side it was a world of difference.
"Marine, hey…Ayanami" she slowly looked at him. "Don't worry about them, they're doing their job, we have to do ours." "Right" agreed Ayanami, slowly glancing at the fireball in the distance that used to be a frigate. "Alright, lock and load marines" Sgt. Johnson ordered "The Scorpions are almost here but until then we'll have to hold our own…snipers, rocket jockeys get in to your positions, there's movement about a block up." "Sir, lotus anti-tank mines in place but I don't think it'll be enough, there's a lot of them and a Wrath!" the out of breath marine shouted. "Don't worry we can handle them" Johnson explained proudly as if he know something they didn't.
What they didn't know was that behind those Covies was a group of Spartans on a mission to protect a squad of marines holdup in the lobby of a hotel in the heart of New Helic City (which was crawling with Covies), until the Scorpions arrived. The Scorpions were about ten blocks away, clearing a Covenant free path through the city.
The Covenant arrived at Omega IV with a fleet of about a dozen, Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers, and an enormous Flagship. The Flagship immediately moved to the surface, directly over New Helic City. Before long there were thousands of Covenant, the people in the city had no chance. The Covenant seemed to be looking for something in the city.
There was a thunderous explosion followed by two twin explosions and a forth. "That got'em" a marine shouted. Out of the smoke came a Hunter pair followed by five Elites three of which wielding plasma swords. Lastly a Wrath rounded the corner but as soon as it did it exploded into blue flames of plasma. The startled Elites turned toward the wreckage to see a Spartan leap onto the wreaked Wrath, sprint across it, jump through the air and crush an Elite with a half-ton worth of Spartan in MJOLNIR armor. He grabbed the deactivated plasma sword from the flattened elite's double-thumbed hand, body check an elite at his side to the ground and sprinted to the other Spartans now at the doorway of the hotel. He activated the sword and said, "Hey, look what I found." "Yeah nice job Fred, but you missed a few," another Spartan said. "Good to see you guys Chief" Johnson said to the Spartan with the shotgun.
The elite Fred knocked over got back to his feet while the others broke from their trance, they started yelling and taunting their new foe. The Hunters now advancing on the Spartans, their shields raised and their cannons leveled.
"Fred, Lind, you take those Elites, Kelly, we've got the Hunters, Go!" Master Chief ordered, then three green acknowledgement lights winked on in Johns HUD.
Fred charged an Elite, while Linda took a sniping stance and took aim on a Elite in gold armor, aimed for the head and pulled the trigger. The 14.5mm sniper round impacted the alien's head and continued through and hit the building behind it. The Elite limply fell to the ground dropping the plasma sword, deactivating it. Linda then took aim on the last Elite wielding a sword doing the same to it, leaving little resistance for Fred.
One of the Hunters saw Fred running toward the Elites it started charging it weapon to fire at him until he was interrupted by an 8 gauge shotgun's buckshot ricocheting off his tough armor, it swung around toward the shot, aiming his cannon at the Master Chief. It shot its arm-mounted fuel rod cannon at the Spartan and fired. The Chief narrowly missed the stream of hot plasma. Kelly started running circles around the two Hunters occasionally shooting at them but mainly just confusing them. The Chief saw this opportunity, ran towards a Hunter who's back now faced him put the mussel of his shotgun up to the unprotected area of exposed skin and pulled the trigger. The Hunter roared and dropped to the ground.
Fred continued running toward the nearest Elite, it started shooting at him, he dodged a few plasma bolts and easily cut the Elite in half, but just as the two halves hit the ground the other Elite hit him in the back of his head causing him to fall forward despite the pain and dizziness he turned it into a roll, got back on his feet and turned around to see the Elite swinging to hit him again, Fred swung the sword, again cutting the Elite in half.
The other Hunter seeing this roared in anger over its partner's death. It stopped now enraged slammed its massive shield into Kelly throwing her over twenty feet, handing on her back. The Master Chief, with his shotgun, hit the Hunter as hard as he could in the head, causing it to stumble back, it swung its shield at the Chief but missed. Kelly got back on her feet and ran at the Hunter seeing it almost hit the Chief, she kicked it in the back with all her weight and momentum, knocking it to the ground. She then shot exposed skin with her Assault Rifle, emptying an entire clip into the Hunter's back.
Johnson walked over to where the Spartans stood and said "Nice work Spartans, we couldn't have done that that easily. A marine came over to the group and said "Hey, Sarge do you hear that?"
"Hear what, the tanks?"
"No, listen."
"What the Hell is that?"
"Is that Grunts?" Kelly said.
"I think so, they're coming from that way," Linda said, pointing.
A large group of Grunts came running down the road yelling and barking. There was a large explosion at the front of the group, a tank shell. They turned and ran towards the Spartans and Marines now even more scared. There was a second explosion that killed half the grunts. Just than a warthog rounded the corner the grunts came from, it ran over most of the grunts, leaving the rest to the gunner, and came to a stop in front of the Spartans. "Just though we should get a few kills in Chief, they seemed far out-numbered any way" the warthog's driver shouted.
"No kidding Sarge, they would've been dead before they know it" Fred shouted. "Hey, Sgt. Johnson, good to see you alive." "Yeah, you too Sgt. Havoc, so what brings you to these parts?" "We're here to bring you guys back, alive. The top brass aren't sure if we can hold this world."
Four Scorpions came around the corner and came to a stop before the warthog. "Alright marines hop on the tanks, we're gone' a ride them to the LZ to on the Pelicans waiting there" Johnson shouted to the marines. "You marines, get on the two back scorpions, Spartans, we're on the first two" John said.
The scorpions took them about ten blocks to the LZ. Along the way there were only a few grunts, they also saw several strange purple, floating creatures taking apart car engines.
They got to the LZ and quickly boarded the Pelicans.
"Johnson, were are we going?" John yelled over the Pelican's engines.
"We going up to the Ryoukon"
"But Johnson we're losing the battle in space"
"Actually we're now holding our own and obviously you don't know that the Ryoukon is one of the largest ships in the UNSC fleet, besides its captain is an old friend"
"Keyes…Jacob Keyes is the captain of a super destroyer"
"Sure is and we each get our own MAC gun to shoot the ten Covenant ships left." The Pelican continued to roar into space till it got to the mighty super destroyer, the Ryoukon.
Super destroyers are nearly three times the size of normal cruisers. They have six MAC guns, 200 Archer missile pods, 60 50mm cannons, 6 Shiva nuclear missiles, 2 NOVA bombs, and 14 large hangers for storing Pelicans, Longswords, Warthogs and Scorpions. This super destroyer has four Mark VII fusion cores twice as superior as the previous model with two Mark V cores to super-charge the main cores letting the ship run at full power for much longer with out worry of melt-down, they also give the ship a 200% increase in power allowing the MAC gun's capacitors to fully charge in a quarter of the normal time.
The Spartans and Marine exited the two Pelicans in one of the Ryoukon's spacious hangars, a larger troop transport warthog drove towards them and a marine jumped out of the passenger seat and ran over to them. "Sgt. Johnson, this warthog will take you to the bridge the captains waiting for you" the marine told them. "Well then, we better not keep Keyes waiting, should we?" Johnson exclaimed "Havoc, watch the marines, come on Spartans lets go."
Johnson and the Spartans climbed in the back of the warthog. They took a ten-minute ride up and down through tunnels. They stopped in front of a door with a large red arrow on the floor in front of it labeled "Bridge" with a star above it. They stepped through to doorway in to the bridge, the room had control panels and view screens every were. There were a few engineers running around franticly, then Captain Keyes greeted them. "Welcome aboard…Sgt. Johnson, Master Chief, good to see you two again." "You too" They replied in unison and looked at each other angrily.
"So Keyes, what's the story?" Chief asked. "There are ten Covenant ships soon to be nine, we haven't yet entered the battle but will shortly…" the captain replied but was cut off by the navigation officer. "Entering combat area in 5…4" Keyes moved towards his chair and sat down. "2…1…we are now in range of Covenant ships, sir." Keyes pressed a button on his control panel to make an announcement over the intercom, "Attention, all hands to battle stations, we're about to engage the Covenant, marines prepare for enemy boarding craft, good luck."
"Sgt. Johnson, your stations' there, Chief, yours is there" Keyes said.
"Johnson you know how to use one of these" Chief said.
"Of course, a child could use one, point and shoot!"
"Yeah, almost" Keyes said.
"Hey Chief, bet I can get more than you" Johnson exclaimed.
"You're on!"
"Are the MAC guns charged" Keyes asked.
"Yes sir, MAC guns 1-6 charged 100%" the officer at the weapons station said.
"Remove safeties on Archer pods and Shiva nuclear missiles"
"Safeties off for Archer pods 1-200…safeties off for Shiva nuclear missiles 1-6"
"Kaji, use MAC guns 1,2, 5 and 6, be ready for point defence with the 50mm cannons" A figure apered on the holotank, a orange translusant AI with strange angel like wings.
"Yes sir. Captain Keyes" he staluted and flickered out.
"Enemy Assault Carrier spoted us, its moving towards us"
"Targate locked on" a voice sounded from John's station "Checking crosse fire…clear"
"Fire!" the Master Chief shouted as he pushed the fire button. There was dull rumbel throughout the ship then the round impacted the the front of the Covenant crussire tearing through the entirer ship stem to stern, there was a small explosion of plasma form the interior of the ship, lights went out through out the ship, it was dead-in-space. There were three simaltanuos thuds as Kaji fired three MAC rounds at the cripaled ship the first tore through the aft of the ship, the second broke the small section conecting the front bulge to the rest of the ship letting it float free, the thrid tore into the middle and must have hit a plasma storage, causeing it to explode vaporizing most of the ship.
The Ryoukon was then joned by several other ships, they destroyed five more ships. Their battle group a few ships, then a broading craft lached onto the Ryoukon.
"Sir, we've got a Covenant boardint craft on level 43 in sector C, reports say it was empty and a small sphere rolled out and started glowing then projected a hologram of an Elite, it then became more solid, it the walked back into the bording craft to retreve a plasma sword, they shot at it but nothing happened, so far it seems to be headed for the bridge."
"So theres an Elite hologram walk here that can interact with things"
"Yes sir, it can move and grab objects but can not be touched, aparently this has happened before, they stoped it by destroying the source ."
"So what about the sphere it came from"
"The marines destroyed it hoping the hologram would disaper"
"So its coming from one of those three ships left"
"It must be sir"
Keyes pressed a button "Attention all USNC ships target the three remaining ships with your MAC guns fire on my mark, Chief, Johnson, Kaji are you ready" they anserd "Ready!"
The bridge door opened and the holo-Elite ran in, grabed Keyes in a way as to use him as a sheld, holding his plasma sword in front of Keyes. Fred, Linda and Kelly stood around them guns rased, even though they couldn't hurt the elite. The officer that Keyes was just speaking with said "Captain, the fleet needs the order" the looked at him and growled.
The three Covenant ships were getting larger in the view screen, their lateral lines started glowing with plasma.
"Sir"
"Fire!"
Lights streaked torwads the ships, the Elite looked at the screen and gave a large roar, the three ships exploded into one large fire ball. The Elite flickered out and the plasma sword droped to the floor.
Fire streaked across the sky as the wreckage of the Covenant ships fell in to the planet's atmosphere.
