ANDRE-026 gripped his M90 Shotgun. Ever since they were issued a mission to interrupt a covenant dig located in the Himalayas, he had finally been able to actually fight the Covenant for a rather long period of time. He and two other Spartans, REGINA-141 and DARREN-092 were assigned to the task. So far so good, just a large force of grunts in their way. It was rather strange that there weren't any Jackals in the area.
They went down as soon as they poked their ugly little faces out of cover. Bright blue gel-like fluid oozed out of bullet holes. No more Elites were anywhere near the planet; it seems like they all retreated at once. Only Brutes still fought with the humans currently. Regina slammed one of the fleeing grunts with the butt of her BR55 Battle rifle. The simian alien's skull crushed under the weight of the blow.
Darren used his Sub Machine Gun to dispatch a lone grunt cowering in a corner. "These tunnels seem rather extensive due to geological surveys," he said.
"Then we better reach the prize before the covenant," Andre said, reloading shells into his shotgun.
Regina remained quiet, as usual. She reloaded the battle rifle and checked her ammo supplies. An explosion shook the narrow tunnels. Rocks fell from the ceiling of a large chamber that had formed. A few of them actually crushed a grunt. The three Spartans continued on, unaware of the situation. "C'mon Hazaz, we gots ta' get to the dig," one of the grunts shouted, not noticing the three humans following them.
"Ugh, can't run with this stupid thing on my back," complained the other grunt, who must've been named Hazaz.
"I didn't know they spoke English," whispered Darren.
They ran unnoticed down several miles of shafts and cavers dug out by the covenant. Finally, the three came across a huge ancient room with beams of light for a floor. Below the beams there was a huge pool of molten rock. A huge contingent of Brutes was down there, along with grunts that were keeping a great distance from the apes. Regina fired at one instinctively, killing it. They all turned at once. "Regina, you filth-"
That's all Darren had time to say before he was ripped apart by a volley of grenades. Regina took a serious beating, rendering her cold and motionless. But still barely alive. Andre slung her over his shoulder and ran as fast as his body allowed him to. In an extremely short amount of time he was able to exit the caves, trample over a pair of grunts and sprint across the mountainside. He found a pile of wood and tried his best to make a fire without using weapons.
He treated Regina the best he could. After about five hours she woke up, shivering, in borderline shock, and hurting like hell. "Can you move?" Andre asked her.
Regina tried to will her finger to move but there was no response. "No," she said, coughing up a small amount of blood. He injected her with his strongest stimpac. "Now?" he asked.
Regina favored him with a dirty look and answered with an abrupt "No, I can't!"
He removed some of the armor plating to see if there were any problems. A huge amount of plasma burns could be found on Regina's skin. After he prepared to try and help a little more, an Elite Zealot rounded a rock.
"How ya' doing?" Andre asked, visor to visor with the alien.
The Elite roared at him. it then slammed him in the helmet. Andre flew back thanks to the powerful force of the punch. "Can't you just take us prisoner? Master Chief told me all about how you guys hate those apes. I'd rather fight the Brutes then the Elites,"
The alien clicked its mandibles. He said something unkown to the two Spartans and then a Stealth Elite materialized from thin air, plasma rifles heated. It tried to say something in the human tougue. "You now follow,"
It said, with extreme discomfort.
Even though this was agianst all Andre had learned, he swifltly threw his comrade over his shoulder and did as ordered. They started to run, which was a little hard to keep up with. Some of the Elites could run really fast with little effort. After roughly a mile and one half a Spirit dropship was in a landing position. He stepped into the vehicle at the order of the aliens. He sat onto one of the cumbersome chairs.
A covenant dropship flew into space. It landed onto a small vessel, a Covenant Corvette, and brought along a suprise on board.
