There are many races in the Covenant Empire. The Grunts, the Jackals, the Drones, the Engineers, the Elites, the Brutes, and the Prophets. This is the story of only one of those races. A race war torn with honor, family, and clan feuds before the arrival of the Covenant fleet to their home world. The Elites. This is their story.
"We will kill them all or be killed in the process! Come my brethren; to war!"
This message was echoed all through the Inner Sanctum of the Selgaaroth clan. It was heard by the thousand of the Elites making up the Selgaaroth clan. They were all blood thirsty and ready to avenge the death of their hero, Eairkaalee the Swift. Eirkaalee had been dead for about one hundred years but the Selgaaroth war council had not found the culprit until ten years ago, when the Durgoth clan sent a message admitting that their leader's son, Irokulee, had assassinated Eairkaalee. They wished to atone for their dishonesty by raging open war with Selgaaroth as was the Elite way. For one hundred years the Selgaaroth clan had been building and army; every male and female were trained from young ages to become skilled warriors. Now the time had come. Ezairee, the leader of the Selgaaroth Army, had seen the size of the Durgoth clan's army and decided it should be crushed before it could grow any larger. As the ranks of the Selgaaroth marched through Koron, the largest city on Desilajic separating the two clans Inner Sanctums, the Durgoth Army marched to meet them in mortal combat. Every Elite in the Selgaaroth Army was armed with a Lipikeu, a long pike with electrical charges stored in the end. The user could discharge the pike at an opponent, permanently disabling or killing the target. High Battle Master Ezairee was armed with an energy shield and sword of his own design. Lower ranking Battle Masters were armed with energy swords and Lipikeu's. The Durgoth's Dagnas were much like the energy swords of the Selgaaroth but shorter and one was held in each hand. Durgoth Battle Masters were a terror on the battlefield to enemies and allies alike.
"Attack! Kill the dishonored ones! Show no mercy!" cried HBM. Ezairee "Die you treacherous scum!" he yelled as he plunged his sword into the bowels of an enemy. As the battle raged on the Durgoth forces were pushed back and split into two groups. "Battle Master Isalee, take the group on the left. My men will take the right." BM. Isalee's forces were annihilated by the Durgoths while Ezairee didn't lose a single soldier. The remaining Selgaaroth and Durgoth forces clashed in the center of Desilajic.
"The ancients curse you, Tyrant!" yelled a Durgoth warrior as Ezairee cut him in half. Another crept up behind Ezairee. Ezairee turned around "coward, you attack from behind!" The Durgoth Battle Master was caught on the receiving end of a Selgaaroth Honor Guard's Lipikeu energy blast. The only things left of either army were the leaders and their Honor Guards. The Selgaaroth Honor Guards formed a semi circle and the Durgoth Honor Guards formed the other half of the circle. The young Irokulee and the older Ezairee faced each other in the center of the circle.
"So tyrant, you think you can defeat me? Let's see you try!" roared Irokulee as he charged at Ezairee; his twin energy dagnas cutting blue arcs through the air. Ezairee dodged the attack and lashed out at Irokulee. The energy blade made contact with Irokulee' s left arm and left a gaping cut down to his wrist.
Irokulee roared again as he jumped toward Ezairee. Ezairee could not block in time and was rewarded with two bleeding gashes across his face in the shape of an 'x'.
"So, it has come to this. You with only one arm combat enabled; and me nearly blinded by my own blood." Said Ezairee "Continuing this fight would be fatal to us both."
"One arm is more than enough to kill you" yelled Irokulee as he leaped at Ezairee. He fell to the ground mid leap; weak from blood loss.
"Now do you believe me? We can achieve nothing but both of our deaths if we continue to fight" said Ezairee as he turned to walk away.
"Coward! You would run from battle? I would rather die on the battle field then run from a fight! Now face me so I can kill you!" yelled Irokulee.
"What would dying achieve; even if you killed me? You would be remembered as a hero to the Durgoth clan but you would not be here to witness your clan's rise to power. A warrior as strong as you would hold a high position in the reigning clan of Desilajic." replied Ezairee. As he walked away the Durgoth Honor Guards moved to stop him.
"Stop, let him go. His time will come." said Irokulee. The Durgoth Honor Guards moved back behind their leader as he left the battlefield.
Three days later Ezairee had healed from his fight with the Irokulee. As Ezairee walked down the hallway of his quarter's one of his underlings came up to him and bowed.
"Exalted One, the guards on the outer wall have spotted a large purple object in the sky. It is shaped slightly like one of the Star Cruisers the Caste of Sciences has been working on only much larger." said the servant.
"Show me." said Ezairee. Curious and wary of this possible threat or ally, what ever it was. As they reached the court yard Ezairee could see the sheer size of the strange object. Suddenly a blue beam of light shot from the object into the ground. Two smaller purple and silver objects floated half way down the beam, and then shot toward the Inner Sanctum of both the Durgoth and Selgaaroth. The odd purple object landed in the court yard in front of Ezairee just as his Honor Guard formed around him. A door way opened and out stepped an Elite clad in strange blue armor. He had an Honor Guard of ten more Elites wearing the same strange armor.
"Greetings brother" spoke the strange Elite. I come with a proposal from the Great and Grand Prophet of Truth."
"Who are you, who is this prophet thing, and what is that purple thing doing over my city! said Ezairee.
"The Prophets will not be ill spoken of again without punishment. As for myself, I am Grand Battle Master Nesolee of the Covenant Fleet. That 'purple thing' is the Grand Prophecy. It is the finest carrier in the Covenant fleet. Now if you would be so kind as to come with me, I won't have to destroy the Selgaaroth clan." said the Elite
"Very well, I will hear your proposal but if I don't like it you will have to face the finest warriors on the planet." replied Ezairee.
"Oh I very much doubt that." Grand Battle Master Nesolee laughed to himself.
Once the 'drop ship' as it was apparently called, reached the Grand Prophecy Ezairee and his Honor Guard were led through the ship and into a dim and cavernous chamber. At the far end was a creature floating in the air. It was wearing long red robes and a tall gold headpiece. Two small claws protruded from the robes.
"Bow before the High Prophet of Truth." said an Elite kneeling in front of the creature.
"Welcome, you have come to hear a proposal and I have one." said the Prophet. He talked of a Great Journey and ancient Forerunners; of great fortress ring worlds and ancient technology. When he was finished he asked "So what of your decision."
"I now see that the joining the Covenant is the only path to Glorious Salvation. The Selgaaroth clan will join the Covenant" replied Ezairee.
"As does the Durgoth clan" said Irokulee as he stepped out of the shadows. "I see now that we should have been fighting for salvation all along."
And with that the two strongest clans of the planet Desilajic and all the clans under them joined the Covenant.
