//LOG ENDS//

Dust filled the air and clouded the ODST soldiers' vision. He quickly jogged down the street. Cars aflame sent smoke into the sepia sky. The ODST waved a hand to the three civilians' struggling to keep up. The Orbital Drop Shock Trooper cocked the safety of his M7S caseless submachine gun and used its flashlight to see through the fog. The two African men and teenage girl caught in the Mombasa explosion followed the suited marine, there eyes burned and their faces caked in dirt.

"Please," The larger man asked in a heavy Kenyan accent, "where are we going?" The ODST stopped to turn and speak when the civilians head exploded. Blood, brains, and bones spurted out all over his black combat gear and the man fell down. A trail of thin blue light had been fired at the man, the colour evaporated into the dust. The actual gun shot was heard a second later. The teenage girl shrieked in terror and knelt down to her brother. The ODST looked frantically around, they were blind and in the open. The enemy could see them and could easily pick them off within seconds.

"Get down!" The soldier yelled to the surviving pair, but the girl's screams where far too loud for them to hear. Another ping of a gunshot fired and a blue wave missed his helmet by inches. He needed light. As if God himself had heeded his prayers a neighboring lampost lit itself and a funnel of light made the dust scarper. A brute in blue armour hefting a Beam Rifle looked stunned. The ODST was surprised he was at such a close range, but took the opportunity of light to fire a whole magazine of bullets into the padded gorilla-aliens' chest. The other man shielded the teen as the marine fired. The ODST didn't stop firing till the brute was dead. He cursed his actions. The gun fight screams and light had drawn attention of the brute pack. Although there was no way to be certain, the ODST had a suspicion that brutes travelled in packs. He quickly grabbed the arm of the grieving girl and pulled her to her feet.

"We have to go now!" The soldier barked, the girl tugged her arm from his grip and the other man fiercely strolled towards him.
"Can't you see she just lost her brother!" the man said, eyes welled up with tears.
"You will both die unless you follow me to safety." The ODST pleaded.
"Safe!" The man barked back, pointing at the soldier's gun, "We are not safe with you." With that the man stormed back to the girl and let her weep on him.

The ODST kicked a nearby rock into the distance in fury. He'd never lost a man on his shift, on this shift, he lost hundreds. Suddenly, a large TV screen lit up. It was on a large corporate building, the windows shattered and the brick crumbling. The screen lit the whole street in a red glow, lighting the dead man and the two crying relatives, nearby cars and the bullet pocked brick walls. The TV screen showed a red background, and then a selection of white words scrolled on from the left. The message read: SPEED LIMIT 20. The screen flickered on then back on; instead it said PLEASE MAKE A LEFT.

The ODST knew this was a sign, not a religious one, but a helpful guide from someone, leading him to safety. The soldier turned to the civilians, but they shook their heads side to side telling him the answer to his unspoken question.
"Fine, be careful." The ODST said, before sprinting off into the dust.

Lamposts lit his path through Mombasa's Main Street, the building towered high into the dust clouds and the heat was blistering. Suddenly the ODST could hear to roar of brutes. The echo came from behind, and when the soldier turned to see he was greeted by four of them, three in blue armour, the other in turquoise. They sprinted, bearing down quickly on the lone marine. The ODST ran backwards facing his opponents and opened fire. One of the brutes' chest spewed blood with each bullet and eventually fell down hard on the floor. The other three gained ground, but this time marine reached for his belt and plucked a fragmentation grenade from its harness and threw it at the floor. The dump apes ran on top of it just as it exploded sending all three in separated direction, detached limbs and liters of purple blood rained down.

A second TV screen flickered on; the white words flickered across the red background read EXPECT DELAYS! before the whole screen flickered off. The ODST stood in the centre of Mombasa, wondering what the hell he was going to do now.
