John pressed his face against the foggy window of his cabin and blew hard to melt the condensation. He furiously wiped it away with his pajama sleeve to make his vision less blurry. Outside of his cabin stood a large red monster. It had a large alien head and stood 6ft tall. Dressed in glorious red armor and mouth divided into four equal jaws this marvelous creature was almost as wonderful as Christmas. To John, only seven years old, this other form-of-life was marvelous. In the dim light of the neighboring cabin he could see CPO Mendez walked out of his "office" and throw a cigarette butt out of sight. He marched purposely towards the alien who took two steps back at his aggressiveness in his stride. Mendez got to the alien then swung his left fist at it, the alien's jaws writhed as he coughed purple blood onto the wet grass below. The punch was hard, even though John couldn't hear it through all the wood that made the cabin. John watched without a flick of emotion in his face, concentrating on why the alien needed to be punched. Mendez snarled and grabbed the creature's throat.
"Damn Elite!" Mendez shouted pressing on the alien's windpipe up against John's cabin, "It's a bloody miracle you weren't tracked! Your very existence would strike panic into every human there is. I'll get an old friend to take you home on a small dropship to where ever planet you come from."
The Elite coughed, Mendez released his grip so the alien can talk.
"Human, if the Covenant where to learn of our meeting, my entire race would be slaughtered before yours. Bear in mind human that the Covenant is aware you exist; they just don't know how powerful you are. They will strike within years." The Elite massaged its throat; it spoke in an unfamiliarly deep voice that John had never dreamt to hear.
"Is that a threat?" Mendez asked warningly. His nostrils flared. John had never seen him so mad.
"My people views and opinions are over ruled by those higher in the hierarchy. I would love to leave your planets be and return to my planet, but I am the only one of my kind who believes the Great Journey promises only death for everyone in the galaxy." The Elite shuddered, "I've come to warn you, in the next few years your colonies will burn under an unstoppable force, be ready. The young humans you have here, the Spartans, make sure they're ready. Prophecies say that Earth will lie in the hands of a man who has lost everything, and has anything to gain. My people call him, Yetheligos
or Demon."
Mendez seemed to have lost his rage and paid close attention, as did John. The Elite sighed, it was distressing to tell a man his and everyone he loves existence will be gone in years.
"My people know I have fled, they will search the stars for me, but not if you do one last task for me," the Elite pointed at Mendez's pistol around his belt, "Kill me, I know my life has run out of its use."
Mendez nodded, his stern face gave nothing away, but John knew he felt sorry for the alien.
"Thank you, these Spartans will end whatever it is needs ending
and more." Mendez said slowly retrieving his pistol and pointing it at the Elite.
"Remember what I said
This lone human, is key to our galaxies existence." The Elite looked at the cabin
at John. The boy ducked under the window, he could swear the Elite knew where he had been all along. "Shoot me away from the Spartans, and then bury me in a place no one will look." Mendez walked backwards, turned, and marched into the shadows of the forest. John pulled himself up to find himself staring into the Elites black eyes, only a pane of glass separated their faces from touching. "Demon." It muttered before it turned away.
John crept into his bed, and thought on the events he had just seen, tried to take in the information. He was determined to see the alien again. Within the minute he was asleep, not even the muffled sound of the gunshot was heard, and all that had happened was like a distant dream.
The next morning John woke up and joined the other Spartans in the "playground". He could not remember at all what happened during the night... one word seemed to stick though, John smiled to himslef as he remembered it. The word sounded cool, suited him as a nickname... DEMON.
