The Spartans are my family
None will ever take that place in me
I am tormented by memory
Because I remember my mother.
A perfect smile and crimson hair
Emerald eyes so full of care
The secrets child and parent share
I remember my mother.
Dr. Halsey came and stole us one day
A life of duty, no time for play
Not one of us would trade it away
But I remember my mother.
A memory so full of green
A summer field, my laughing queen
The perfect sort of childhood scene
I remember my mother.
Mendez made us brave and bold
The things we learned, the stories he told
We got a good price for the childhood we sold
But I remember my mother.
My sixth birthday, the last I had
Candles bright, no place for sad
And anyway, who needs a dad?
I remember my mother.
John, my love, ever in my heart
My Master Chief, he did his part
For him alone would life restart
But I remember my mother.
"Linda, watch the little bird soar!"
A captured dream; away it tore
I watched till I could see no more
I remember my mother.
Fred my friend, he never knew
Doesn't think for him, only thinks for you
He'll never realize he's a leader true
But I remember my mother.
Knee deep in snow, on Christmas Eve
Make a wish and must believe
The last of days I have to grieve
I remember my mother
Will, poor Will, most broken of all
The lightest of us had the hardest to fall
War stole his smile, yet he still stands tall
But I remember my mother.
Encouragement she always gave
My future she worked hard to pave
For her, all humans I will save
I remember my mother.
Kelly, stolen away from us
In Doctor Halsey we place out trust
We'll fight on without her because we must
But I remember my mother.
And here in darkness as I lay
I pray to God my shots won't stray
I shall mourn some other day
Because I remember my mother.
