Authors Note:This is a half-assed story. Russ if you read this, I'm sorry. I know you don't like these. But I had a few things to say before i began my writing. I fell in love with a girl and i'm not entirely sure but from what it seems like. She likes me back too, she leaves for College in a month. Things have severely, fucked up. Anyone wants to know what exactly is happening, PM - Shadow. You guys are lucky that i decided not to write a story without Code. The mm sizes for all the bullets are wrong, but i don't care. So just give me anyfeed back. Shitty or good. Now to the story.

August 15, 2553
Location: Earth
Status: Covenant Invasion in progress

His eyes were weary from the long hard fighting that had kept him awake. Shrieks of Grunts, Elites and Jackals were filling the air along with his comrades. His held his battle rifle, worn from the battles. Paint scrached of on many different areas leaving jagged marks in the Titanium alloy. The butt of the rifle and the barrel stock was covered in blackish blood. Combination of covenant lives he had taken. A few other marines shuffled next to him, they were sleep deprived just as him.

Jason took a look at his rifle and checked the ammunition counter. Sixteen glowed blue on the mini LCD display. He pulled the half filled clip and replaced it with a new one. The ammunition counter read a full thirty-six, he sighed. This war was wasting resources beyond known recognition and innocent human lives. Fucking Covenant, i'd like to see them in this situation. Have a hot metal rod shoved up their fucking asses. Watch them squeel in the torment. Their anguish would be relief to me.

Chirps of Jackals were heard from the window, the vibrations of a charged energy shield projected through the broken window. He steadied himself and then focused on his marines. Joshua, Katlin and Alex were all who remained of his team, who had been stationed to protect a civilian evacuation facily. Then they came, like a tidal wave. Overrunning everything. He gave him the minuet luxury of a few seconds to recall the battle. The cries of anger and sorrow kept reverberating in his years. Rifles ejecting clips as fast as they could be loaded. Plasma screaming across the sky and onto the marines, civilians and anything that was in the area. Wraith bombardment began immediately as Fire-Team Epsilon had opened fire with the rocket hogs and jockies.

Most of them had scored succesful hits before bieng enveloped in super-heated plasma. Blood splattered the tents and makeshift buildings. He had watched his friends, his lover die in the battle. Wretched vengance clouded his mind. He focused on the task ahead, the Jackals wandering the streets below. He motioned Katlin to the forward window and Joshua to cover the stairs. With a quick hand signiture his fingers pointed for Alex to rear window and then he himself walked upstairs as quietly as he possibly could. Once he reached the top he keyed his mike and spoke.

"Aim for their heads and conserve ammunition. Once they're done we'll wait for any more enemy parties. If none come, then we move downstairs secure their arm shields and move towards the center of the city."

He positioned himself in the shadows and activated the 2x magnification on his rifle and peered into it. Four Jackals, perfect. He focused his scope on the head of the first Jackal and tapped the trigger. The rifle coughed a bullet with a yellow muzzle flash. The bullet flew straight and true and stuck the Jackal two centimeters left of its cranial ridge. The 9.12mm bullet tore through skull and flesh. Blood splattered the second jacklas shield and they raised in unison. Three more rounds tore through the second jackal and ended its life. The final two jacklas brough their shields together. Bullets richochetted off the raw energy envelope. Plasma fire was returned and burned away concrete and metal.

A fragmentation grenade sailed through the air and hit jackal on the right, it lost its balance as the other turned to it in confusion. Bad mistake thought Katlin as she pulled the trigger on her rifle again. Three more rounds shrilled through the air and entered the turned jackals back. Severing the spinal cord and exploding through the stomach into the wall behind them. As the last round exited the jackal's dead body, the grenade detonated upheaving fist size chunks of concrete into multiple directions. The metal casing from the grenade embeded itself into the jackal's right leg blood sprayed across the inner sanctum of his shield. It let out a yelp in agony as Jason tapped the trigger one final time. The counter dropped to thirty-four as the Jackal took a round just micrometers above its mouth ending its life aswell.

Jason keyed his mike for his team, they all responded with cheers of victory. But something felt odd to him, only four jacklas? Where's the rest of them? He hoped he had not spoken to soon, but to his surprise he was far wrong. Two grey elites rounded the corner wielding two plasma rifles. Oh Fuck! He opened up on the first one, squeezing round after round into its face. Its shields flickered constantly at the impact force of each bullet. Die Motherfucker Die! As his clip started to run empty more battle rifle and submachine gun fire filled the building. He ducked behind an airconditioning unit as plasma rained his previous position. Concrete and steel melted as the foundation beams took the super-heated energy. A few drops landed by Jason and he moved forward still crouched.

He drew his favoraite two sidearms, first was a chrome gun with a long barrel and an Eagle edged into the metal. The second was the original pistol, the M6D. To him the M6C though able to fire much faster lacked the necessary punch to take out something. He linked the M6D's scope into his display screen infront of his left eye. He could see broken fragments in the concrete in front of him. Without much thought he took the Desert Eagle and pointed the barrel over the concrete siding and started pulling of rounds. Each shot reverberated the area around him. He then bough the weapon down and reloaded it. Plasma fire continued to rain his position. Just as he was about to open up with the M6D he heard the gurgling scream of an Elite. One down, another asshole to go. He opened a channel to his team.

"Fire at his arms, get him distracted. I've got a surprise that he wished he would never see again."

Battlerifle and submachine gun fire rained on the grey elite's hands as its shields took most of the damage. But as each bullet impacted his balance started to slip. Jason forgot about the threat of plasma and stood up two chrome sidearms in his hand. He opened fire, the M6D impacted with a flash on the Elite's shield as round after round tried to tear into the protected flesh. When the old standard issue gun ran empty he dropped it and gripped both his hands on the Desert Eagle. He fired with it, each round struck the Elite in the face and forced him backwards into the wall. Two rounds, three rounds...four. With the second to last round the shield gave and entered blue boy shoulder.

He heard the howl of searing pain and rage.

"And this, you ugly piece of shit is for Sarah!"

He squeezed the trigger as the final 0.50 Caliber round left the barrel. The bullet headed straight for the Elite's head. The Elite regaining his form looked up to see a muzzle flash and a tremendous bang. In less than a second he saw the massive bullet infront of him. The bullet entered its cranium and caved it inwards. Another fraction of a second passed as it exited the back of its head. Spraying blood, brains and skull fragments across the wall.

He stood there his gun still drawn up, his mind searching for a ghost, a grunt or a jackal to kill. Flames of anguish exploded inside his head as the gun dropped from his hand and clattered on the ground. He dropped to his knees as tears ran down his face, collecting the dirt from previous battles and making the salty liquid brown. The remainder of his team arrived hurriedly upstairs to see their leader torn apart.

He stuttered as his crying intensified.

      "Thi-this...is...fo-for Sarah!"

He screamed her name loudly into the dead air, birds flocked to the sky at the sound. His arms drawn backwards waiting for any heavenly force to take him. End his misery and send him to his lost love. He's scream slowly died as he fell backwards into the ground. The team watched for a few moments, tears running down their dirty cheeks aswell. Slowly they circled him and grabbed his shoulders and sat him up. Kaitlin took out a canteen filled with water and then took Jason's hand and placed the bottle in his grasp.

"I'm sorry for what happened to her, but we need to go. This place is a danger, drink and regain your strength. If you fail yourself, we fail too. You are our leader and we will take any bullet, rocket or plasma for you. I never told you this before. But I might aswell say it before its too late. Do you remember that day at the training facility in Paris?"

He nodded slowly as his sobbing simmered and he took a gulp of the warm water. It ran down his hoarse throat, soothing it temporarily before the pain returned.

She grabbed his other hand and squeezed it gently, but firmly.

"When we went to the beach, to the Operation Overlord Memorial. We went to the beach, i remember that you held my hand. Even though you're relationship with Sarah existed. You still held my hand, i could feel love eminating from you. A sense of trust and formed an aura around you. Something which i still hold in my heart. You, your strength and courage is what has kept me going in this war. Kept me from turning the gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger. As i kneel holding your hand, i sense the same thing in you. But its burried, I'm sorry when i say the next thing. But the thing is, all this time every day. Every moment, i've always and always will love you."

The words hit him and stirred something, not violent but something soft. Something from the heart a feeling of despair yet happiness. He looked up into her blue eyes, a fire sparkled in them. A fire for love, passion. Comitment, something that he had lost. He opened his mouth to speak words but was cut of as her lips connected with his.

Surprise took his mind of suffering, as his eyes closed. He could feel her energy surging through him, she slowly pulled away her red hair moving in the breeze. He was left stunned. Sarah had died two weeks ago, this is too early. He stowed the thought for later and he slowly grasped her shoulders.

      "Thankyou...but, now's not the time."

Joshua and Alex exchanged a look of confusion before turning back to Jason. He slowly got up, and dusted his pants. He grabbed his fallen rifle and ejected the empty clip, with newfound strength. He replaced the empty stock with a new one. The ammunition counter replaced the zeroes with a three and a six. He then, closed the canteen and handed it to Kaitlin. Who inturn clipped it into her backpack. He grabbed her arms and pulled her up, and looked into her eyes. Why? Her face changed expression from happiness to confusion. After seeing that she had gotten the message. He took out a map and placed it on the ground.

"Ok this is where we are, Springwater Road. Our goal is the fallback point on the otherside of the city. With the intel we recieved in the morning. We know for the fact that the Covenant are located at Gainesborrow Highway. We'll take Harrison street towards the north and then take a left on Crimson View Drive. From there the fallback coordinates are two kilometers. We'll make a pitstop at Hallowscene Mall to replensish food, water and ammunition."

He looked up to see the sun setting on the horizon. Blue and yellow explosions dotted the sky. Covenant Anti-Air mortar fire. He thumbed the safety of his rifle to off and then looked at his team. Four battle worn friends in a city where The Reaper stands holding out a hand.

"With any luck, we should make it to the mall within the hour. There we'll grab anything we can and hopefully. There should be a civilian hog inside. We'll cram in it and gun for the fallback point. Lets Move!"

He moved through his team and down the stairs. The battlerifle lay against his chest. He turned to see, the others following. Finally, we can go home.

The walk had been long and silent, gravel crunched under their boots. The team made their way into the shadow for cover. Rough estimate of fifty-three minutes they arrived at the Mall. Jason walked up the steps to the glass doors. The walkway was dark, as no electric current provided for illumination. He took a step back and then kicked the glass. It shattered and fell into pieces around him. Scanning the region with his rifle, he motioned the rest to follow.

With the area clear he ran up a flight of stairs and came to a weapon shop. Ammunition littered the floor, some guns from the racks were missing. The window pane had shattered aswell. Well atleast someone had the balls to stand up. He entered the shop and started grabbing clips for his rifle and M6D. He then found a duffel bag and started to fill it up with other weapons too. Shotguns clattered against each other. More M6D pistols dropped onto the shotguns. SMG's and Battlerifles soon filled the bag. In the pockets he shoved as much ammunition and grenades as he could fit.

He finally stopped and slammed the but end of his rifle into a vending machine and pulled out bottles of water and alcoholic drinks. He stowed them in his sack and with his remainder of his strength hauled. The overfilled bag out of the shop. He looked over the guard rails to see lights from a Warthog. Lady Luck, glad you're on my side today.

He walked down the flight of stairs and into the car. Alex gunned the engine and the vehicle crashed through the entrance doors and onto empty road. The engine growled as more fuel was fed into its chambers. Speed increased from twenty five to fourty and continued to climb.

To his right he noticed the river, sparkling in the final moments of the sun's rays. He tapped Alex's shoulder and spoke loudly.

"Stop by the river, i have one last thing to do before we go home."

In a matter of minutes the hog stopped by a bridge. Jason got out and walked to the edge. He took out a picture of Sarah. His lost beloved, in one motion he drew a lighter and opened a flame. The heat washed over his hand and across the photograph. Crinkling its edges slightly, the flame blew to the left in the wind the river brought. He took one last look at her face then set the picture aflame and dropped it over the edge and watched it burn and turn into ash. The ash itself blew in the wind and into the river. You're journey is complete and peace be with you.

He walked back to the car and got into it, Alex started the engine and pulled the stick shift into first gear. Jason looked at the river and in his mind he spoke.

So long my love...we shall meet again.

I know there's a lot of GPS in it, but like i said. Its a half-assed story with a lot of regret/pain behind it.

Thanks for reading, i'll post the next chapter of Alternate Realities within a few weeks. Once i can sort myself out from the edge of insanity. w00t, according to Microsoft word not a single spelling mistake.

And sorry for the ending, it went by rather quickly.

Cheers
Shadow
