To be an ODST means to be fearless. To be fearless while you are falling through the sky at 500 miles per hour is quite a feat. Never the less I made the mistake of enlisting with them. Though back then the Covenant were unknown and the ODST's were rarely on active duty. Only when small skirmishes with the rebels were happening would we be on active duty. It all changed when the Covenant waged war upon us. Heathens the bastards call us. They waged holy war calling us an "Affront to the Gods." And so the whole bout started. The covenant romped about the universe destroying planet by planet while we "Fought back". That was the way it went until the Spartan project was developed. finally after that we began winning battles. On the ground that is. Every win on the ground would force the enemy to retreat to space and blow the heck out of us. The current and following chapters will be about the me and other marines who fought for the sake of humanity.
"This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill." The speakers rang out as we pounded down the hall to get to the pod bay. Rebels were attacking the main UNSC C&C on Apolo 7. At the moment we were the only significant fighting force in range. Other ships were En route but they wouldnt be within range for another hour or so. We entered the bay and entered our respective pods. "Strap in!" sargeant Mc cully yelled over the comm. The door to my pod slowly hissed shut. Then just as soon as it shut it immediatley dropped from the U.S.S Abraham. The first wave of obcentities came pouring out as I gained speed. The pod heated up as I sped throught the atmosphere. A scream blasted over the comm. I looked at the radar a dot flickered and went out. Pod E5 just exploded. It's not such a rare occurence since the pods have been used many times. I was nearing the surface when the second wave flowed out of my mouth. I could hear others doing the same. Then came a massive thud and the pod stopped moving.
I hit the door release button and fell face first out of the pod.
We met at predetermined coordinates five miles south of the C&C. There were 99 of the previous 100. Mc Cully gave the breifing. "You will be divided into 3 teams Alpha, Beta, and Delta. Alpha will come with me and make the frontal assault on the base. Beta will attack from the south. And Delta will attack the concentration of tanks 7 miles to the west." "Thats suicide." a voice rang out over the crowd. "Ha" Mc Cully laughed, "Maybe for a marine but not for a hell jumper." A general cheer resounded through the crowd. "Let's rock and roll." Mc Cully cheered.
I was assigned to Delta to take out the tanks. My partners one of which was a sturdy African American man: Private Avery Johnson. The other being an Austrailian: leutanant Jester. We procured a warthog, four rocket launchers, and a crap load of rockets. We were positioned so I was in the back operating the chain gun while Jester was in the drivers seat, and Johnson was in the side. Our team took off for the enemy.
Johnson was the first to spot the collection of tanks. the group spread out to flank the enemy. We took the right side. I quickly began to fire on the tanks. We were passing as the shelling began. Massive explosions rocked the warthog. Two of the warthogs behind us were engulfed in flames as the tanks hit them. I could only imagine the same was happening on the other side. Johnson fired a rocket at one of the tanks as we passed it. It exploded with such force that it blew the top of it right off. All of a sudden in a suicidal move Jester pulled into the middle of the group of tanks. I took the chance to unload on the tanks. Johnson also took the chance to unload. We pulled out on the left side. Then I heard a scream from Jester and looked down and saw chaingun rounds tearing him apart. Without him stearing we veered to the right. Johnson grabbed the stearing wheel and attempted to get us back on track but as he tried the warthog rolled over. Everything went black...
