The elite's scream echoed through the valley. 1st. Lt. John Baxter smiled as he peered through the scope: the elite's brains began bubbling out of it's head. He set the zoom back to normal, and slung the rifle over his back.
"That idiot won't be bothering us any more." he chuckled.
"Maybe he won't, but they will." said a younger soldier. Baxter turned his head. a large force of jackals and grunts were charging across the dusty red valley floor, followed by ten wraiths.
"IOTA COMPANY! SEEK COVER!" yelled Captain Julian Bates, diving behand a large rock. The company of marines scrambled for cover as plasma mortar bolts from the wraiths landed around them. Three marines weren't so lucky, and ended up vaporised right before Lt. Baxter's eyes.
"Oh great..."
CHAPTER 1
Linda nearly choked with laughter upon seeing the new "Centurions". walk into the atrium from a docking bay hallway. Ten marines, dressed in black jumpsuits. Linda, Fred and Will sat near the top of the bleachers, with all of the high-ranking brass. Their white uniforms were almost sparkling.
"How are they going to be like us?" No-one replied. Linda opened her mouth to speak, but a Captain in the center of the stsge where the marines now were began talking-apparently listing the ten marines:
Major Julian F. Bates
Captain John Baxter
Captain Lester Liu
1st. Lt. Morris Amaras
2nd. Lt. Li Wu Lan
Sergeant Lance Willis
Corporal Dana Teresz
Corporal Roger Radcliffe
LCorporal Joe Wang
LCorporal Hideta Tekiguni
"These ten marines are all that remains of Iota Company; the toughest company that the UNSC has, and the most well-trained soldiers next to Spartans." Will let out a small cheer.
"The rest of their company was chewed up during the defnce against Covenant forces on Mars. May I say that that was a success despite the heavy casualties. Now then, for the past two weeks, these ten men and women have been modified to match the fighting abilties of Spartans, without any of the chemicals. Heres to Dr. Reggie Stevens for that, but he isn't here right now. I would just like to take a moment to tell you where he is. He's currently outfitting the other Centurions. These ten marines are the first centurions that-"
A loud explosion was heard, followed by an alarm and a woman's voice over the loudspeakers:
"Covenant forces inbound. All hands to battlestations. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a-"
Another soldier's voice broke through the communications.
Soldier: We've got another contact!
Lord Hood: It isn't one of ours. Take it out.
Soldier: Aye-aye, sir!
John: This is Spartan 117-does anyone copy?
Lord Hood: Isolate that signal.
Lord Hood: Master Chief? What are you doing on that ship?
John: Sir. Finishing this fight.
Lord Hood: Very good. Is anyone on that ship?
John: The Prophet of Truth.
Lord Hood: The rest of them?
John: Floodbait.
Lord Hood: very good. Notify me of anything further.
John: Yes, sir. Over and out.
The Captain on stage spoke:
"Spartans and Centurions into battle armor. Marines, prepare to repel boarders."
A massive "YES SIR!" was heard as the soldiers scurried about their tasks. The Spartans sighed, and hurried to put on their armor.
CHAPTER 2
The Spartans and the Centurions took about five minutes to admire each other's armor. The Spartan's Olive MJOLNIR Mk 6 armor, with glinting orange visors, and the Centurion's orange SHRESA Mk 3 suits with dull blue visors. SHRESA much resembled MJOLNIR Mk 5, except there was no utility belt, and the padding was braced and blue.
"Let's go." said Fred. Everyone nodded, and then raced off to the armory. Will spoke up:
"We should split into two teams." Fred nodded, and designated himself as Leader of Blue Team over the HUD, and Linda popped up as Red leader.
"Hey, why can't we lead the teams? We're higher ranks than you!" said Baxter.
"I don't believe any of you are equivalent to colonels?" Fred said defiantly.
Red team crept through the corridors of the GeoSync station, with Linda and Baxter at point, both wielding Sniper rifles. Lt. Li's voice cracked over the COM channel.
"Hey, shouldn't you guys be at the back? I mean, you're snipers."
Linda and Baxter nodded, and turned to go to the back, when suddenly, a bulkhead ahead of them burst open, and Elites and grunts flooded through.
"FIRE AT WILL!" Linda yelled, firing rounds from her rifle. The bulkhead behind them opened, and Blue team came through. Will, with blue team, was packing a .50 cal on his shoulder, which ripped through the first line of covenant.
"They never stop coming!" yelled one of the Centurions. Bates smashed open an emergency glass box on the wall labeled: EMERGENCY USE ONLY. He retreived a rocket launcher from within and hefted it onto his shoulder.
"Three..."
The covenant force pushed further into the corridor. All of the soldiers were amazed that so many soldiers could fit into such a small corridor: in actuality, it was about 20 meters long and 13 meters wide. The excessive packing of covenant forces just made it appear small.
"Two..."
The energy shields on the soldiers' suits were going lower, and Lester was already taking hits directly to his suit. Suddenly, someone on Linda's team HUD's heart rate spiked, then flatlined. Within 3 seconds, the name had dissapeared. It was Joe. The covenant, cheered on by the fact that a human was dead, pushed forward.
"One-?"
A massive plasma explosion threw alien bodies all over the corridor, and blasted both walls out; one side was a kitchen, the other a gym.
"Major? Did you do that? Did someone throw a grenade?" Linda asked. A strangely familiar voice cracked over the COM channel. "I did that." All of the soldiers looke around for the voice's source, and saw, at the far end of the corridor where previously only covenant had stood, a horribly worn and tattered MJOLNIR Mk 5 suit stood. It appeared to have been severed at the middle, and gel and foam had dripped down and dried in the gash.
A new name appeared on Linda's HUD, followed by a heart rate line.

CHAPTER 3
Dr. Reggie Stevens scurried around his lab. Standing against the walls, clad in SHRESA armor, was the new Iota Company.
"I'll just run a final examination on your armor, and y'all are free to go." the scientist said with a southern
drawl-not entirely suprising, since his laboratory was in Texas-where he was from. Reggie typed a series of code lines into his computer. A semitransparent green man wearing a fur coat and hat and carrying a sub machinegun appeared on a cyber pedestal next to the computer.
"Doctor, you made an error on the fifth line. Want me to correct it?" the AI asked, in a Russian accent.
"Go ahead, Borris." replied Stevens. A whirrin sound came from the computer, and then a beep.
"Done." said Borris.
"Excellent. Centurions, please remember to pick up your Assault Rifles on the way out. Dismissed."
The Centurions filed out of the laboratory. Stevens sighed.
"They're not going to make it, are they, Borris?"
"Chances of survival against the Covenant: 1.2%."
"Yeah...well, just don't tell them that."
