chaos war: chapter one: garage space.
Date: 26 August 2007, 7:02 pm
Chapter one: Garage space
On the edge of the world to those who lived on this planet, on a battleground torn apart by war, a place once known as New Rotterdam holds the key to the humans resistance to the covenant. This devastated city holds several secret underground military installations. This way the key city in the defense of earth, now it is under siege. It has been like this for days now, if not weeks. Marines are scattered over the ruins it holds. Brutes, grunts, jackals, drones and other New Covenant troops are searching it for the underground installations it holds, but the marines are a chain to the leg of progress for the covenant. Rebel elites hold both the brutes as the marines as their enemies, though knowing the marines fight the same enemy and hold the last high-tech defenses against the covenant. Just as a scout marine reported the engagement of a brute group toward one of the secret entrances to a underground militia base the sky went apocalyptic as hundreds of rebel drop pods terrorize the city, providing it with just as much sworded elites with plasma rifle's as backup weapon.
The attack came from a rebel elite ship slipping trough the covenants space fleet as one of their own. Earth is still in space war with the covenant, the planet being the center of battle, covenant space ships on the one side and unsc ships on the other side. As soon as those ships spotted activity in New Rotterdam, knowing the city would be in chaos among the old and new covenant they send in troops of their own. Not just any troops, there where spartan 3's, a good twenty of them. As the city would be in chaos war at the moment little ground forces would pay attention to the sky, and pelicans would have a fairly safe landing, so they took advantage of the chaos and spread the twenty Spartans over the city in groups of two, now the chaos battle would really begin.
The first pelican to land held two Spartans known as 166-Axim and 178-Kazama, two of the UNSC's finest Spartans. As the pelican's hatch opened up the two and ten marines went out of the pelican about to take of again and secured the surroundings. No enemies so far.
"This is one six six Axim, safe landing, area secure, what are my orders?" The spartan known as Axim said over intercom, it only took a few seconds for the spartan leading the operation to reply; "Axim, Kazama, i want you two and your squad to head to the marine underground base in sector five seven delta, your radar will be updated to the location in five." The spartan on the other side replied, it was clear that though the pods where precisely launched the elites and new covenant where in chaos war, the Spartans on the other hand where not at all, not for now at least.
Not a second after the command was given Axim gave th order to move out to the coördinates on the radar, the team took no risks and saw every Rolf top, every window, every ruin and every turn as one, aiming one weapon at every spot at least once. The first real turn they had to take was a problem, it was filled with wracked cars and many hiding spots.
"Kazama, what do you think?" Axim asked.
"I think, always follow your guts." Kazama replied with a tense voice, clearly with sharp eyes scanning the area every step of the way.
"Thats what you always say, how about a real opinion for once." Axim said, actually seeming to release some tensity, though still fully into the situation. Suddenly the sky went bright blue, clearly something up there had been blown up big time.
"John for Kazama, any update on the big bang?" Kazama asked over intercom, waiting for a reply, it took a little while.
"All units, Elite rebel ship has been blown up, debry might impact earth, no global killer alert, stay on the mission, John out." The head spartan reported to all involved units to the mission. Axim went up front and held his assault rifle ready. Suddenly the sound of a activating sword sounded really close by.
"Heads up!" Axim shouted as he noticed the ground at his feet, and the ground behind him brighten up in a glowing way. He duck while turning around, a sword held by a heatwave figure missed his diving head by a inch at most, his helmed was slightly burning from the plasma coming so close to it. As he was fully turned he opened fire with his assault rifle and purple blood came spattering out and dripping along the void.
"Woe ba wa!" Sounded as the sword aimed at the sky just before making another slash at Axim's head. Dodging the sword Axim pushed the figure back and it came to a Holt against Kazama's shotgun. Immediately Kazama fired, penetrating the figure with all the bullets, causing a major wound. The figure fell on its face as the stealth mechanism was damaged and it revealed a beat up Elite. It was still alive but the shotgun was lethal if not treated.
"Don't struggle, we won't kill you." Axim said with a calm and calming voice. Five minutes later Kazama and Axim dragged the elite into the underground base, the rest of their team behind them providing a safe drag trough the city, none of the marines where able to carry the elite with help from just one other marine, so the Spartans dragged him. As the marine was put down and a medical team was called in Axim looked around in disappointment, the last city to stand a defense and this low tech crampy basement was one of the leading bases? Though basement seemed to be the term for a mega size mall garage sized base Axim expected much more of it.
The entrance actually was a road down a normal size mall garage but it where the almost impossible to spot camera's all over the garage that made the stealth defense so strong, within seconds ten turrets would come out of the ground, marines on them and the entrance would open and marines would come out like a waterfall on its back. Walking trough the base Kazama was engaged by a marine walking a bit difficult, no wonder, he was carrying something like it use to be the turret of a warthog, but he knew all those designs and this was not one of them.
"Spartan... Sir, though this weapon is a bit heavy for marines to use, i would really like to introduce you to this beauty, the missile pod." The marine said, taking several speech timeouts to get the strength to hold it up and the last to move it toward Kazama's hands. Kazama took the gun and held it next to him like it was fairly lite.
"Instruct me." Kazama said calm while observing the weapons every details.
"It shoots up to 3 missiles at a time that have a fair homing toward anything large that moves, its speed is slightly above that of a spanker and the explosions are about just as deadly." The marine said, relaxing his arms.
"Is that all?" Kazama said, intrigued by this new toy to use in combat.
"No Sir, are you familiar with the Spartan lazer?" The marine asked.
"Its a Spartan Lazer, i got instructed the day the weapon went into fabrication, where there many made?"
"Enough on earth if we keep the same numbers on it, o and the warthog turret is adapted with a battery and a handle, it is now fully detachable and ready for non vehicle combat." The marine said, saluting Kazama and taking back the Missile pod to its rag, a whole bunch of them where on it. Kazama looked around and saw Axim talking to a high rank, the talk finished and Axim seemed like he had orders. Within a minute their team was outside again, Kazama carrying a missile pod on his back and Axim equipped with a bubble shield and the new sniper and assault rifle. Kazama also got hold of a fully charged plasma rifle and some of their marines got smg's, up-till now they had to do with the old assault rifles, their ship was outdated but as they returned to earth for a update they where caught up in the battle for it.
Now they where to meat up with five scorpion tanks and a whole bunch of marines along with a group of odst's to take over a location known to have a covenant base as its under attack by elites, it must have been a target of the rebel elites attack as they see the same value as the unsc does, a old but packed explosives warehouse in the center of the base. blowing it up was one way but taking its stash would proof highly useful as rocket warthogs and missile pods where the main supply next to frag grenades, in which the new covenant and the rebel elites brave began to see huge value in combat as they are simple to activate.
chaos wars: Chapter two: Walk in the park.
Date: 8 September 2007, 9:32 pm
"John for Axim, hows the rest of the teams doing?" Axim asked over intercom, waiting behind a wracked old bus for a marine scout to report back about the field up ahead, it was a really open space, it use to be a park so there are no buildings and vehicles, only one old critically damaged tank near the middle of the field. The ground was a mix of dirt and grass, the hole city was slowly being taken back by nature, its just that war is keeping it from taking it whole.
"Axim, some teams where more lucky than others and even two didn't make it to their drop-zones, the scorpions you are to meet are under attack right now, they said they would handle it, just try and hurry it up a bit." John replied.
"Got any info on the Kalverhagen park? We are stuck behind a bus until our scout returns, that could take a little while." Axim asked, looking trough the empty window spaces of the bus to try and see what the scout was doing.
"Negative, you will have to find out for yourself, Axim, don't die out there." John replied, sounding serious.
"John, dude its me, I'll be fine, so will Kazama, anyway, Axim out, i think our scout is returning." Axim said, seeing the scout running back to the bus in a haste. As John's reply fell to the background of attention Axim walked up to Kazama who way laying on the ground next to the bus, aiming the missile pod at the buildings on the other side of the waste land.
"Think we can go around it?" Axim asked as he got onto his belly.
"There is always another ambush, might as well take the short one." Kazama replied calm, looking at the scout now nearly back at the bus. Axim grabbed his sniper rifle and scoped in on the buildings, they all seemed deserted and to unstable to put a ambush in., with the covenant you just can't be sure. The scout got back, he seemed unharmed but eager to get a bunch of words out of his system.
"Tell me, why the rush?" Kazama asked the marine, his voice as calm as always.
"The buildings are as empty from here as from where i went, i could not see a thing in them so i doubt they have enemies in them, perhaps units ready to come out of hiding on command, but thats just it, the field itself, at first sight and from a distance it seemed empty, but at one point i was walking and i looked at the ground and i saw the arm of one of those scumbag jackals, the body berried, i could swear i saw a finger more out of itself, i think they have a ambush in the field itself, they think i didn't see it and they are counting on us to walk into the ambush, thats the only reason they let me return, they already know we are behind this bus, I'm sure of it." The marine said, trying to sound as confident as possible about the finger as the ambush theory, immediately Axim looked at Kazama who was ready to say it.
"Always follow your guts" Kazama said as expected, than he continued; "I say we walk into it, i want to try out my new toy."
"Kazama, its a ambush, you don't walk into it if you know its there." Axim said, looking over the field with his sniper, looking for anything glowing to aim on.
"John for Axim, come in." Axim said.
"Go ahead." John replied.
"What does one have to do to get a bombardment of the Kalverhagen park?" Axim asked.
"One would have to get a space ship in orbit above your location, or one would have to get artillery in range, neither of those are options." John replied. It seemed the group would have to go around or trough the ambush. Kazama got up and put his missile pod on his back and grabbed the plasma rifle, he looked at it and you just knew that he had a smile inside that helmed of his. Axim also got up and put his sniper rifle away and got out his assault rifle, the newest version of it, though it seemed totally the same.
"You guys coming or wat?" Kazama asked as he turned his head back to his front.
"Are we really going trough that field?" A marine asked, not sure about his future and clearly showing it with a slightly shivering voice, it was clear that this marine spoke for all of the group and even Axim had his doubts about what enemies would await them, or better said how many, because he did not fear any of them, he just feared a inferno of plasma coming his way with nowhere to dodge to or take cover, yet Axim could not seem like he followed the marines on this hunch.
"Marines, stop the shaking, our enemy can hear your yaws from miles away, lets move it." Axim said, sounding sure of his words and the actions that would follow. The marines got from behind cover and followed Axim and Kazama up the field. Axim slowed down a bit until he was walking next to the scout.
"If we get in trowing range you let me knew, got it?" Axim said calmly to the marine, he needed the scout to pay full attention to the field to remember where the arm stuck out. Within a few minutes the scout gave the signal, Axim walked up to Kazama and threw a fragmentation grenade to his front. The grenade overpassed the spot because the marine signaled as they reached his throwing range, but if there was more behind the arm it did not matter if he overpassed it. Kazama already had his missile pod ready and Axim drew his assault rifle. All he marines got their smg's ready, than the fragmentation grenade exploded. A distant shout sounded from where the grenade exploded, Axim recognized it as a grunt panicking, as smoke cleared a moment later the sound was confirmed by the sight of a grunt running around with purple blood all over himself, he was leaking badly. With a bang and a whoosh Kazama launched a rocked from his missile pod and it went straight for the grunt. Now there was more movement near the grunt. The ground rose as fell of the figures that where under it. Jackals, brutes, grunts and even before Axim got a glimpse at them the drones went into the air, giving away their identity. Axim opened fire, so did the marines, the only accurate ammunition that was being wasted was that of the missile pod, three rockets at a time and they did really good damage. Axim charged the enemy while firing his assault rifle.
Brute plasma rifle ammo came in Axim's direction along with spiker bullets and allot of plasma. Axim aimed at one of the drones in the air and shot it down with a few good shots, as it fell Axims eyes followed it down, their attention was drawn by a brute with a hammer coming alarmingly close. As the brute swung its brutish brute hammer at Axim's head Axim duck and passed the brute. Looking at the brute it was clear to be a chieftain. Axim turned around swiftly and before the brute got around bullets chased the brute face down into the ground, falling over. Axim turned from the brute to the noise of plasma fire to his right, looking in the direction Axim saw a jackal shooting at his team, not paying much attention to the Spartan right next to him, a deadly mistake. Axim shot the jackal in the chest two times and one to the head, the shield coming nowhere near deflecting the bullets. As Axim turned to the group of covenant just ahead and the marines took care of the few grunts Axim passed Kazama looked at the sky upon hearing a sound he never liked but this time was eager to hear getting louder, the engines of banshees, at least more than one.
"It seems our friends called for backup, look sharp." Kazama said to the marine who where to focused on the ground forces to even notice the banshees engaging, now coming in sight from high above and behind them, they where flanked. Kazama turned to the banshees, than he saw why they could hear them so early, there where at least ten of them, this was no normal backup, they where serious about taking down two Spartans it seemed.
"This is Spartan one five six Kazama requesting air to air support, at least ten banshees are engaging us with hostile ground troops within firing range." Kazama said over distress com, clear to hear on all militia radio's in the area. A moment later Kazama was knocked of his feet by a fuel rod blast impacting about three meters away from him, draining his shield allot. Suddenly time seemed to slow down, sound was like being under water, anther green spark went straight for him. He seemed petrified, a elbow on the ground lifting his back from the ground, the opposite hand pushing him further up, but there was nowhere near enough time to get away, perhaps a jump to the side, no it was already so close. As Kazama stared death in the face he could do no more than stare back and accept it, but he was not given up so easy. As the fuel rod came closer a small ball at his feet seemed to tumble over like just being rolled there. From it a transparent field of squares forming a solid formation erupted, engulfing Kazama in an instant, but the stayed unharmed as the squares passed trough him, like they opened up to get passed him and closed behind him. Trough the transparent squares Kazama saw the fuel rod closing in, than something happened he had not the time for to realize, the fuel rod exploded like it would on impact, but it did so as it came in contact with the transparent energy. Covering his eyes Kazama thought to be a dead man, it seemed he had been spared somehow. The shield faded as Axim picked the ball up from the ground, the bubble shield. As hornets, new unsc fighting helicopter engaged a rain of bullets fell down on the covenant troops and rockets where launched toward the banshees in the air. Though it was a tough air battle Axim and Kazama where saved from the suicidal field that they had walked in. Walking out Kazama was releaved he had survived the park, now he had to survive the war, not a easy task, but as they walked along a path leading to the meeting point the worst seemed to be over.

Chapter three: Real chaos?
A loud beep ringed loudly in the ears of Axim, Kazama and their Marines, a huge mortar had just impacted and everyone was knocked over. Trough the beep another sound became clear, a sound of crashing and ramming. Axim opened his eyes and looked around, than he saw what it was.
"Drop-pods!" He shouted, as they where being surrounded by just that, one person pods that where made to survive high impact and leave the person, or creature inside alive. Soon they all opened up, and while Axim thought elites would be poring out it seemed they had be slightly enlarged and brutes fitted in, as those where the foes they now had to deal with. Axim got up as fast as he could, a bit disorientated he noticed the indicator of his shield being down. He grabbed a weapon from his back, it had slipped his mind what it was but as he held it in front of him instinct kicked in and he opened fire with his battle rifle. They where surrounded and infiltrated, most of the marines where still on the ground and some where in no condition to get up. The sound of rockets indicated that Kazama was back on his feet and some rifle fire indicated some marines now where as well. Than came the sound of the brute weaponry, spikers, brute shots, and even some brute hammers where in use along side with spike grenades.
Axim shot a brute in the face, destroying his head dress and taking a eye and a yaw out. The brute went down, till alive but unable to fight. Axim turned to the next one, just to the right and a bit further away. He managed to nail the brute with a plasma grenade and it was launched backwords, its guts blown away. Than a brute with duel brute spikers came into view, shooting both his weapons at Axim he was aiming perfectly it would seem as Axim took allot of shots, but to his relief it seemed hat he already had his shield back, that must have slipped his attention, though it was now halfway deleted again. In the deception of his shield being down he had returned some loosely aimed rounds, luckily one shot hit the brutes left hand, dropping the spiker. Another few shots entered the chest but a brute, even more than a elite, did not know the meaning of ceasing fire to treat the injury and kept on shooting with his other weapon, picking up the weapon that he had dropped. Than a few good shots hit the chest on the right places and the brute went down, dying before hitting the floor. Suddenly a 'Waugh' shout was made by a brute behind him, meaning one thing only. He duck and a brute hammer missed his skull by inches. He turned around and shot the brute in the arms, devastating a elbow and breaking some more bones. The brute held on to the hammer with a single arm as he let it hit the ground. A painful attempt was made to lift it up again but than the sound of some more bones breaking made the brute stop. Than the brute charged at Axim, dropping his hammer and trying to stab him with his rhino-like helmet. Axim dodged the brute and good a clear aim at the brutes back, opening fire and destroying the spine. A rocket passed axims view and took out another brute, Kazama had depleted his missile pod and slammed a brute with it before throwing it at another one that went down and had a hard time getting up.
Kazama grabbed the hammer Axim had put up as free to grab from the ground and countered another hammer, pushing it back and slamming the other hammer wielding brute in the face and it dropped to the ground. Axim had his mark set, a brute shot wielding brute was picking on the few marines to survive for so long and he didn't like it. He ran up to the brute from behind and bashed him in the back of the head. The brute went down but upon landing he rolled over and slashed his brute shot at Axim in a melee attempt. Axim went backwords in all force, the blade on the weapon engaged from left to right and it left a scratch on his visor, a centimeter closer and it would have broke, possibly sending sharves into Axims eyes. The sight of the huge blade from as close up as could be made him fall on his back like rocks had been but behind his feet as he walked back. He landed on the ground but as the brute got up Axim rushed several bullets trough the brutes helmed into the lower yaw and into the brain. A plasma explosion was the last sound of battle so close by and Axim realized they had survived this part of chaos.
As Axim got up and found Kazama to be unharmed he counted his marines, only six left, they began with a fairly large group. Than he noticed a Hornet flying over them high in the air, it was burning and a fuel rod impacted the left rotor, it became unstearable and went for earth, disorientating he pilot far before impact by its almost random tumbling and turning by the single rotor. Than Axim saw the source, three Banshees flew by in the same direction the Hornet had gone before crashing. The sound of the Hornet impacting seemed nearby, but so did the explosion that took away the hope of a survivor.
"Lets get back to our mission, this path leads straight for the Scorpions we are suppose to meet, so lets walk it, and hurry up a bit." Kazama said, looking at Axim for agreement that was quickly given as it would have been his words exactly. But as they began walking a fuel rod impacted only meters away from the group, the Banshees had spotted them, and as soon as they did five more came into view, clearly being called in for backup. The group split up to run for cover, staying as a group now would be deadly with one good fuel rod. Large amounts of plasma where fired on the group as they split up and some attempts to aim a fuel rod where made. Axim went into a deserted and blown up window relieved of all color it might have once had. He ran up the fragile stairs only just able to hold him as he analyzed the cracks and holes right to step only on the safe ones and as he got to the second float he looked trough what once was a window. He could see the banshees flying low to the ground, some searching for targets, some shooting at hideouts.
"Mayday mayday, platoon assaulted by eight banshees requesting heavy backup at Five six eight." Axim shouted, looking up to the banshees that seemed to be all over the place. "I repeat, requesting heavy backup at five six eight, banshee attack!"
As he got the words out the roof of the building he was in collapsed under a fuel rod, blowing his cover. As he opened fire another Banshee did the same and knocked him of hit feet with yet another fuel rod.
"Eat dirt!" He shouted as he threw a plasma grenade at a banshee sticking it perfectly to the nose. He got up and scrambled Out of the building about to collapse. He jumped onto a school bus and ran of it. Behind it sat a marine looking scared to death.
"Keep focused." He said calmly, actually covering his own tense voice, things looked bad. Kazama sat behind a old human barricade and near a thick wall, Banshees had not yet spotted him but if they did his cover would be gone with the first well aimed fuel rod. Suddenly he saw pink plasma rush horizontal over the field, things just got allot worse, or perhaps not. He got out of cover and ran toward what to his expection was a Spectre, a Covenant vehicle with one covered of driver seat, one open gunner positing just behind and above the driver and space for two on the sides to sit. The gunner had spotted him charging at him and turned to him while already opening fire, melting away the ground that was once brick street, now only a smooth path with humbs all over.
Kazama strafed as best as he could to keep away from the gunners aim while closing in, Banshees all had their aim for him as well and the ground around him seemed like it had random exploding mines all over and the ground he ran on could be the very next to explode. Than he finally made it to the Spectre and jumped on, giving the Brute on it a molten face. He pushed him off and got in the seat. He turned to the sky as the driver did his best to make it hard for him to get a aim but one by one the Banshees went down until a Banshee decided to critical damage the vehicle. The driver got out and Kazama followed its lead. The Brute that was the driver tuned to Kazama and opened fire with a spiker but Kazama charged at him and dodged a swing, shooting the brute in the head. Just as his worries where still going a exploding in the sky stated the Hornets had arrived and the Banshees where down in mere seconds.

Chapter four: Final run.
"Airspace secure, no nearby ground troops spotted from up here." One of the Hornet pilots said over com.
"Whats the status on the tank squad?" Kazama asked, one Hornet turned around.
"Position three six eight?" There are five of them on a crossroad, no enemies spotted, they have the three sixty formation, all round protection, if thats your destination you had better hurry, they are more vulnerable than they might seem." The pilot said before the group of Hornets took of as they got another call for air support. A short 'good luck', than Axim and Kazama where on their on again with a few marines that again got scared of the thought of being alone again, the stamina boost of having two Spartans in their team had run out way back.
"Lets move it, they're close by and we can't make them wait much longer, every second counts." Axim said, beginning to walk to the road again that they needed to follow. Everyone followed and they made a slight haste to it. Not two minutes later the Scorpions came in sight in the far distance, they just sat there scanning the area, you could tell by their main guns moving all the times in a systematic back and forth while up and down, this Axim noticed trough the scope of his battle rifle. Than just as they where about to cross a crossroad of their own the first sign of Purple came into view from the left. A Wraith, Ghosts, a CovBus, at least four Brute Choppers and allot of ground troops.
"Hide." Kazama whispered just loud enough for the team to hear. It was to late though, a grunt walking nearly upfront spotted them going behind a building into a alley and alerted the rest. Two Ghosts engaged to check it out. As they hovered toward the alley they saw the group sprinting to get out of it on the other side and make it asif they weren't there. Plasma came raging into the alley and bricks of the buildings on both side where molten away like acid on its best. Allot of shots nearly made it to the group and some actually did so Kazama and Axim went last to take the plasma to their shield.
"Where to now?" A marine asked in panic. Axim wasted no time and lead the way while Kazama stayed with the end of the alley to hold of the ghosts just small enough to get trough the alley without bashing their small wing-shaped engines to the walls and making traffic jamming turns. Kazama grabbed his hammer and stood just next to the opening to the alley, waiting for the Ghosts engines to sound loud enough. As they did the stepped in and swung the hammer at them.
A wave of gravity provided the force he needed to slam the first Ghost back into the second one, the one at front slided over the second and pushed the grunt driving it with his head back against the seat, cracking his skull. Kazama put his hammer on his back and took out his battle rifle, he had a opening passed the first Ghost and fired on the second Ghost. The metal of the Ghost made a spark igniting the methane that had leaked from the devastated gas masker the Grunt had on his face. What started as a small inferno reached the methane tank on the Grunts back and turned into a explosion wiping all the ground troops that followed the Ghosts into the alley. The first ghost had outrun the explosion by getting out of it toward Kazama, trying to road kill him but Kazama jumped on it instead and bashed the Grunt of, sitting down and turning to the ally already filling with Grunts and Brutes and Jackals. Just as he wanted to open fire he got hit from his left, it was not plasma. He turned to look and saw two huge wheels charging at him, in between he saw a Brute sitting in the chopper the wheels belonged to. Guns on the front where taring down Kazama's shield and the wheels covered in spikes would run the Ghost with Kazama in it down and under. Jumping of the Ghost he evaded the explosion the it made as the Chopper ran it over. Kazama got up pulling out the Gravity hammer. The Brute Chopper had turned around and went right for him. More shots came from behind, the same kind the first chopper fired. Kazama squeezed the handle of the hammer real tight and as the chopper got close enough he gave it a golf uppercut swing against the right wheel of the chopper.
The choppers front went while capsizing and nearly passing Kazama by its tumble to the side in the capsize. Kazama still jumped aside as the flipped chopper still had great propulsion and the chopper from behind never saw it coming. The two choppers collided, the bottom of the first hitting the wheels of the second. As the first exploded it killed the Brute on the second, than the second exploded. Kazama was glad to have jumped to duck, else he would have been really blown over, the explosions had great force. As he got up he remembered why he had let his team run while he stayed behind, not only was the alley now overflowed with troops, the wraith and CovBus had went around the building. Kazama was in a death for sure situation as it was right now. Kazama Rolled over to dodge a rain of plasma fired at him. The seconds rounds he nearly dodged by another role but things looked grim. Than luck struck, Axim had come back for him, nading the building the Covenant vehicles had to go around from the inside trough broken windows, making it collapse along the direction the ground troops exitted the alley. The covBus got crushed and the other vehicles got cut of. Dust covered sight and the ground troops that where on the right side of the building to attack Kazama had no aim for several seconds, giving Kazama a chance to throw a nade on memory of his last sight, effectively killing a great deal of the troops they where trough the alley. Kazama turned away as sight bettered and started running for the next alley. Brutes where the fastest to follow, gaining up on him. As he entered the alley he turned around and started running back. The first brute that got in sight got three rounds of bullets all over including the face. The next got the same but fired back. Hitting Kazama on the shield with spikes, draining away from the bodyshield fast. As the Brute went down two more took its place but Kazama gained distance. As he saw the length of the alley he had seen as he ran forward - being nearly the length he looked back at - he knew he was almost on the other side. Another burst and he turned around.
He ran out of the alley and was back on the road they where suppose to take. Adrenaline rushed trough his vanes, near death experiences where nothing new, but this was as grim as a situation had ever been for him and he got out. Than he plummeted back to earth at the sound of rocks slamming, the walls of the house to his left collapsed and a few rocks made it to Axim's feet, though harmless in size he was glad none of them hit him. He looked at the gap now made in the building just as several Brutes flew over the pile of ruble and roughly landed all around Axim, their backpacks being drained from the lift boost they provided. Axim was in a tight spot yet again. He counted at least four brutes, all medium of rank but all deadly. He mostly saw Spikers but one Brute Shot caught Axim's glimpse. Axim checked his Battle rifle and saw his clip was half empty, his reserves where down to another clip missing a few bullets, it had apparently already seen some action. As the Brute stretched their legs after the landing they turned to Axim, they all had their weapons ready, not aiming them yet, so did Axim. After a short stand off one Brute with a Spiker on Axim's right aimed the weapon For Axim's head and pulled the trigger. Large long Spikes launched out of the barrel of the weapon, raging for Axim's helmet. Axim was able to role to his front, several other Spikes also missed Axim by inches split seconds later. Axim kneeled toward a Brute with a smoking barrel, not a moment was wasted as Axim aimed his Rifle for the Brutes face, opening fire. The bullets tared trough the Brutes head dress and after the first rain of blood the Brute's face was beyond identification. As the corpse dropped dead on the ground Axim knew the next round of spikes would make their way to him any of the next split seconds and he had to act fast. His rifle would be ready for another burst of bullets after a quick dodge, but after a few bursts he would have to put in his last clip, he had best toss it and find a replacement. He took his chances and rolled over the corpse, landing his hands on the smoking Spiker the corpse provided. Falling on his back he prayed that all weapons where fired before he came to a halt. He looked over the middle of the Spiker and in between the two tips large blades on the lower sides of the blade, opening fire he felt for the first time how great the back-blow was this weapon had. His blow to the shoulder was payed back with two large spikes penetrating the chest of one of the brutes aiming his weapon at Axim. Rolling to the left spikes penetrated the ground where Axim lay and the cracks the spikes made where filled up with blood of the first Brute he had killed. In his role Axim had got up but tumbled down over a large clumb of rock coming to his knees. Knowing he was still under fire he rolled further after hitting the wet cold dirt. By doing so his helmet got covered in mud. It was quickly vaporised by his body shield reacting to a signal on his visor.
As sight got back he aimed his Spiker at another brute. Pulling the strong trigger the spikes raged toward the brute who failed a desperate attempt to dodge. The Brute fell on its back in a loud roar of pain, blood spilled out of his right shoulder on both the entrance and the exit wound and another spike had penetrated one of the Brute's longs. It was not quite dead but it was surely no more thread at the moment. Axim scrambled on his feet, ducking again to dodge the barrel of another Brute's spiker rifle. As the spikes missed Axim's head by inches he aimed his spiker to the brute and fired another round from down to up. The first spike nailed the Brute's left foot to the ground, another spike got him in the chest and the last struck him right in the throat. The Brute fell down but his foot was still forced to stand and the pain was all over, before drowning in his own blood filling his longs he reached out to Axim who was by far close enough to grab. The stretched arm fell on the ground as the last quirks passed. Suddenly a blast hit Axim's bodyshield and he was smacked into a wall behind him broken of to about one and a half meter high. The impact of Axim's heavy suit to the wall made it collapse further. Pain in the neck, back and left arm where overcome by the fear of another such blow to his chest, the Brute shot was a deadly weapon. He got up but tumbled to his left. He had pulled a part of the wall with him, it was attached to his left arm by a thick metal bar that penetrated his shield, armour arm bone. Suddenly the pain was near unbearable and he knew the penetration trough the should had drained it as the shield had tried to vaporize on impact, it happened in such a split second though that this shield and suit where defenseless. He aimed the heavy Spiker rifle toward the Brute with the brute shot only with the strength his right arm still had. All attempts to keep his arm steady failed, but than he saw the perfect timing to shoot, as his arm tried to get back on target and just before passing it again he fired the spikes at the brute. The glory in the success of a aimed shot where overcome by the near perfect dodge the Brute made, simply stepping to his right.
The Brute saw the immobilized Spartan laying on the pillow of bricks and took its own glory. It walked up to Axim without haste, knowing he was not going anywhere. Axim shot again but the haste to do something made him aim way off. The Brute did not even try to dodge and just kept walking. All hope seemed top fade as Axim's right arm gave in to the weight of the weapon and the dismotivation of knowing he would not even hit a Elephant right now. The Spiker rifle slipped out of his hands and fell on the ground. Axim tried to sit up but his left arm held him down.
"Demon, your time belongs to history, my future will be glorious." The Brute said before kneeling down at Axim's feet. Sparks began to appear at Axim's left arm, his bodyshield was regenerating only to attack the metal bar again. The brute held his weapon ready to swing the large blade on the barrel end at Axim's neck.
"You have some praying to do before your head becomes my trophy?" The Brute asked, taking his weapon to Axim's neck and back to ready position to see how the swing would go.
"Well, if you could give me a short minute..." Axim said, hoping for one of Kazama's many great typical last split-second saviours, the Brute however only waited about five seconds before interrupting him.
"Enough, I'll have your head."
With those words spoken a heavy weight lifted of Axim's shoulders, or more like his left shielder. His bodyshield had cut the metal bar in half and the bricks let lose. Suddenly a rush of hope passed trough Axim's body, before he had realized it the Brute shot's blade had hit the bricks Axim's head lay on just half a second ago. Axim had dodged the blade and suddenly realized he had the Spiker rifle in his hands again, its both blades in the chest of the Brute. The Brute fell on its back in a loud roar. Axim now stood at the feet of the Brute that nearly got the better of him.
"A demon can never die, faith is always on his side." Axim said before walking passed the dying Brute and again toward the objective, he had no idea where his team was but he hoped they made it to the Scorpion group. The walk was slow and painful, it seemed to go on and on, than about halfway there from where he had nearly died the sound of engines snuck up from behind him. It took a short while to get his attention but when he turned around he saw a Spectre coming at him. To his relief he saw Kazama and two other marines on it.
"Axim, get in you don't want to look behind you." Kazama said as he signaled him to get on board. Axim's bodyshield flickered as bullets of some kind impacted, doing little damage but enough to make him hurry up.
"Are you bleeding?" Kazama asked looking at Axim's left arm.
"I survived the greatest odds so far, I'll be fine." Axim replied with a weak voice, in against Kazama's fear about the weak voice it was just because he had been trough hell and back one time to many this day. Finally they made it to the safety of the Scorpion tanks and the Brute shoppers that where on their tail ceased to follow them into range of the tanks. To the teams relief the Scorpion tanks where in good shape and all accounted for. Talk about the mission slipped Axim's attention as a Medic treated his Left arm. It seemed a eternity before they began driving to the destination they where to take the tanks to, because the group had reached their objective with so many two Pelicans dropped of extra marines and two warthogs, the Pelicans where already deployed as the mission started, but where Axim and Kazama brought to the tanks like this they would have spared many lived and it would have even spared time, things where as they where and all they could do now is hope this part of their mission would go better.
