The Ghosts of Tau Seti Prime {Part One}
0831 hours, February 25, 2250(military calendar) Outer Colony Tau Seti Prime, Tau Seti System En Route to Surface, John's View
The MasterChief and his squad of elite Spartan warriors, 7 in total, approached the surface in a pelican dropship borrowed from the AlphaLance. The reports of small skirmishes with Covenant had yet to be confirmed, when contact with the small outpost had been lost, and a battle group had been dispatched. They had arrived in the system just in time to see a Covenant cruiser drift slowly into the star. Passive scans revealed several other ion trails leading into the star. It had rattled everyone in the 5-ship fleet to see that.
They proceeded to the surface, as planned, to the capital city of Tau Seti, Newer Jersey. They attempted to contact air control, but there was no response, so, they decided to land near the spaceport. The pelican dropped off 2 warthog's with the new LAAG gun mounted in place of the troop transport seats. "Sir, area secure," came Kelly's voice over the comm. System in their new MJOLNIR armor. "No biosigns detected, guess they were right." Referring to the scans the AlphaLance had run.
"That can't be right," said Mikhail, "this planet has a population of 6 654 269. Did they all just decide to leave?"
"I don like dis Chief," said Ross, the only remaining black man on the team. "It lookin' likes nobodies 'ome, j'ou no?"
"Look for evidence of recent habitation, that many people can't just up and disappear. Red One will consist of Mikhail, Tucker, Kelly, you go check the town. Blue One Juan and Ross, and me. We're going to check on the local UNSC outpost."
The Spartans split up, Red heading east towards the habitats, Blue heading north towards the outpost. The Chief and his team were riding in their warthog toward Beta outpost when the warthog's sensors detected plasma expenditure off the west. Juan, who was driving, swerved towards the signal after a subtle exchange of gestures and hand signals with the Chief, who was in the passenger seat. As they came over the crest of the hill Ross was nearly thrown unexpectedly from his seat, as Juan slammed on the brakes, shocked at what he had seen.
Juan backed up back over the hill, in denial as to what he had just seen. The three Spartans jumped out of the hog and crawled to the edge of the hill. There, before them, was a forest. Not a forest that had been here before. Not like any forest anywhere in the galaxy. This was a forest of bodies. The tree's had been stripped of any and all braches, bar two. One arm was nailed to each branch, some upside down, with their legs nailed.
"Those Covie bastards!!" Juan exclaimed as surveyed the carnage. "how can they do this?!" "Look closer, Juan. The Covenant didn't do this." As Juan looked he saw Elites mixed in with the human corpses. He hadn't noticed before because most of the Elites had been skinned. There must have been ten or eleven thousand poor souls, covenant and humans alike, down there. The Chief noticed the place was in a crater like depression. He wondered why-
"Chie-, -ome in Chief!" Kelly's faint voice came over the radio and disrupted his train of thoughts.
"We readin' j'ou Kelly, what j'ou want?" replied Ross, still with some traces of fear in his voice.
"Colonists -re psycho! A--ked us! They los- it! We lost Mikhai-! Found a few -ormal ones, and -'re heading to -utpost, over. Oh shit!! Chief we-"
"Kelly?! Kelly?! Respond Kelly!," he turned to Ross and Juan," OK men, we've lost contact with Red One. based on what was said during last contact with them, they had found the colonists, but there was something wrong. The colonists attack them, and Mikhail was killed. Kelly said she, Tucker, and a few normal people they found are heading for the outpost. If what we witnessed here is any indication, we'll want to be somewhere safe, and the outpost seems the logical place. There will be food and ammunition, and there may be a few marines who managed to survive what ever the hell happened here."
"Sir, Yes, Sir!" said his Spartan warriors in unison. They jumped in the hog and sped away north toward the marine outpost.

The team had just split up, with her team heading east toward the 'city'. They entered through the south gate. Still no biosignal readings. They approached the local UNSC office, which acts as a police station on backwater worlds like this one. they got out and approached the building, when a shadow streaked behind them.
"They're a-comin'!" yelled a deranged man, who had just came around the corner. "Who? Who's coming?" replied Mikhail. Just then a thunderous roar erupted and the Spartans motion trackers flared to life. With a deranged and rather evil grin on his face, he replied "Them." And the first of the former colonists rounded the corner. The Spartans stared for a moment, then "RUN!!!!" screamed Kelly.
