Found 'em

I know that my last series may not have had 1st class punctuation but I'm only 15 yrs old and my punctuation, spelling, grammer (and remembering words hehe) is and will probably always be imperfect. Oh well sorry to say hboff :) (and the beam of light was sort of a fifth element type thing, just to clear that up)
Jabez crept through the icy tunnels with extreme caution. Even Brutes had enough brains to launch an ambush. The walls were stained with frozen blood; from Brute, Human and Elite alike and bodies littered the floor.
The Covenant Loyalist Remnant had for some reason decided on controlling an abandoned research lab; who knows why they'd choose this icy wasteland to make a stand. Jabez motioned for his team to scout ahead; Marina and Laura went around the corner and a few seconds later a green light winked on in Jabez' HUD, indicating that the coast was clear.
Jabez continued around the corner to join his team. Jabez arrived to see a gruesome sight. One white armored Elite corpse which was surrounded by several green zombie-like corpses, each with a gaping hole in each chest.
"What the hell are those things?" asked Laura, nudging one with her boot.
"I have no idea," replied Jabez "but maybe this guy here might be able to help us, Cover me."
Jabez walked over to the dead Sanghelli and searched the corpse. He pulled out food packs, ammo, but most interestingly of all was a data diary.
Jabez activated the diary. There were the usual battle reports from mountainous ranges to open plains. The last document was unfinished; it was as if the writer was interrupted during his report.
Jabez looked behind him at the green corpses; perhaps these are what interrupted this Elite. The final report read.
'Day 15
The newfound parasite is closing in on my position. Captain Isaac Bubbles went missing three days ago.
My ammunition and food supplies are low. If the parasite finds me I shall give them a fight that there rotting minds shall never forget. I can hear them, chirruping in the darkness. Their foul bodies emitting a putrid odor. When they come I shall burn their mutated hides with precision and skill, they will pay for the deaths of my brothers. All who face Special Operations Commander Flodum Banu shall fall.'
"Sir
" stammered Marina "I hear something."
Jabez listened carefully; he heard a chirruping in the darkness. He then smelt a putrid odor and turned on his ventilation systems.
Without warning a green figure with tentacles sprouting out of it arms and a human head tilting to one side with a petrified expression on its face leapt out of the darkness towards Laura who fired instinctively at the monsters midsection. Instead of falling over and die; the creature fell apart and green blood splattered onto the floor. From behind the pieces of the fallen monster came six squid like things about one foot tall in height with three tentacles sticking out of the body with needle like appendages on the tips.
Jabez pulled his foot back and kicked one of the over inflated footballs, instead of flying across the tunnel it exploded and left green goo on Jabez' boot.
"What the?!" he exclaimed.
A quick burst of assault rifle fire made the remaining creatures explode in a chain reaction.
"As I said before, what the hell are those things?" asked Laura.
"As I said before, I have no idea." answered Jabez "but they can't be good."
The team continued through the icy tunnel with twice as much caution as they had beforehand. Green sludge covered the walls and more green corpses littered the floor.
The chirruping returned and the Spartans brought their assault rifles to bear. They stared intently into the darkness ahead, awaiting the return of the foul beings.
Fifty of the miniature monsters skittered in, climbing over each other and on the walls and ceiling. The Spartans opened fire and half of the abominations were instantly destroyed. One of the creatures leapt upon one of the deceased mutants and clambered into its chest cavity.
Jabez looked in amazement as the corpse twitched the stood up and let out a high pitched screech. The reanimated monster bounded to0ward the Spartans, Marina fired her rifle at the creature and its arms burst into pieces but the monstrosity kept running, obviously its mind was bent on slaughtering the three Spartans. Jabez saw the smaller monster filling up the chest cavity with its needle edged tentacles grasping the air. Jabez aimed carefully and shot the smaller form which burst and the larger form collapsed onto the floor.
"Don't let the smaller ones reach the dead things!" ordered Jabez over the din of rifle fire.
The other Spartans winked their acknowledgement lights and finished of the smaller beasts. Marina walked over to a dead monster after she had reloaded her weapon and examined the monster.
"Looks like those little guys climb inside these dead things to make them into a mindless killing machine." She mused.
"But where do the bigger ones come from?" asked Laura walking over.
Marina rolled the monster onto its back and noticed something.
"As weird as it may sound, I know this thing is, or at least who it was." She exclaimed.
"That does sound weird, now who was it?" questioned Jabez, he kneeled down to take a closer look and saw a Spartan insignia on the fallen creatures shoulder.
"This is Captain Isaac Bubbles of the Special Operations team that was here before us," explained Marina "I can tell by the half an EVA helmet he has and the pieces of MJOLNIR armor which he still has."
"Well, do you know how he became like this?" asked Jabez motioning at the hole in the former Captains chest.
Marina thought for a minute.
"It must've been those smaller things, they must attack en masse to accomplish an easier infection. Then the host mutates into what we see here." Suggested Laura.
"Check the other corpses and then dismember them, we don't want another reanimation." ordered Jabez.
The Spartans examined each corpse and found mutated ODSTs', Sanghelli warriors, Brutes and even Spartans who had been infected and mutated. Each corpse was destroyed so that they couldn't be reanimated.
Jabez hated what he was doing, over-killing fallen comrades but it had to be done.
Just as the last bodies was being disposed of a huge beast lumbered into the tunnel. It had a shoulder span of a bout a metre and a half. Its arms were thick and had bone like claws on the ends. Its large elongated heads had tentacles sprouting ot like hair and its mouth had needle ended tentacles wavering around.
The immense creature reared back and screeched, and then using its arms it propelled itself forward at tremendous speed.
The Spartans opened fire.
