The End of the Covenant: Part I
Date: 28 November 2003, 11:14 PM
UNSC Battleship Lexington Task Force 17 2/10/2611
The command center, located deep in the heart of the Lexington, was filled with activity and numerous holograms showing Covenant ship information and fleet status. Admiral Kristoff of Task Force 17 stood at the bridge.
"What is the status of the fleet?", asked Kristoff. "All ships reading nominal", said the Communications officer. Task Force 17 consisted of 25 ships, 5 Medusa-class battleships, including the Lexington, and 20 Cerberus-class destroyers. The battleships also carried 200 Viper-class attack flyers, making for 1000 attack flyers.
"Tell the fleet to launch flyers", said Kristoff. The 1000 attack flyers poured out of the large pod bay doors on the battleships and sped ahead of the fleet.
"What are the defenses on Glory?", asked Kristoff. The Covenant planet they were going to assault, Glory, hung like a green jewel above the night sky. "30 capital ships, 20 destroyers and 10 cruisers, plus their Seraphs", said the scanner officer. "Time until the fleet is in firing range?", asked Kristoff. "1 minute", said the scanner officer.
The Medusa-class battleships were the largest UNSC warships made, larger than Covenant cruisers, but smaller than their assault carriers and dreadnoughts. They were heavily armed, however, with 25 heavy particle cannons and 150 point defense pulse turrets. Each heavy particle cannon was capable of dealing a crippling blow in one shot. The massive weapons were powered by a quantum singularity and 8 gravitametric fusion generators, far more powerful than Covenant plasma reactors.
"Covenant fleet is taking positions", said the scanner officer. "Time until firing range?", asked Kristoff. "30 seconds", said the gunnery officer.
The Cerberus-class destroyers were also very powerful. They were shaped like the Medusas, swept back and grey metallic, but were much smaller, a fourth the size of the Medusas and about the size of a Covenant destroyers. They were armed with 5 heavy particle cannons and 20 point defence turrets, a very heavy armament for such a small ship. They were made specifically for space combat, as they had a crew of 30. They were heavily armed, heavily sheilded, and armored, but were a bit sluggish, like all UNSC capital ships. They were effective however.
"Tell the fleet to charge all weapons. Charge particle cannons and lock onto targets. Reactors to full and charge sheilds", said Kristoff. The familiar humm of the particle cannons building up protons and energy, along with the sheilds charging, vibrated throughout the hulls. "Firing range in 5 seconds",said the gunnery officer.
"Vipers fire, all ships get into range", said Kristoff. The small wing-like Vipers flew down into the large Covenant battle formation, each ship smooth and organic-like, along witht their glowing purple hulls as their plasma weapons charged. The vipers fired their particle cannons, each a deadly thin red beam striking the massive Covenant ships, their sheilds shimmering to protect against the deadly particle cannon fire, but they went out, and more deadly beams struck bare Covenant hull, ripping a melting the purple material.
The destroyers flanked the Covenant formation and fired their particle cannons, each ripping through sheilding and armor. Two thick red beams struck a cruiser, the first plowing through sheilding and the second ripping the hull, tearing the ship in half.
The Covenant, however, fought back. Seraphs poured out, and their plasma torpedoes fired. A battleship was caught in the cross fire, torpedo after torpedo striking it's hull, and swarming Seraphs firing their pulse cannons, while the battleship unleashed it's point defense turrets, which took out Seraphs by the shot. The battleship was covered with explosions, until finally it's hull was vaporized and was followed by a massive explosion and shockwave.
The vipers came around and unleashed more light particle cannon fire and then melted the hull with their CO2 lasers. More Covenant ships were destroyed by the numbers. Finally, the battle was complete, as numerous Covenant hulls tumbled in space, leaking atmosphere and plasma. A single battleship and two destroyers were killed in the combat.
"Engage the planet", said Kristoff. The battleships, destroyers and vipers rushed towards Glory, and unleashed their anti-matter missiles. The anti-matter missiles were devastating, reaking blue fire across the planet, destroying all in their path. Finally Glory was remained into a charred rock planet.
Task Force 17 completed their job, and slipstreamed back to Earth on the success of their raid.

Covenant dreadnaught Warrior's Prayer Orbitting Citadel 2/10/2611
High Prophet Slimmich was filled with rage. An entire planet of his was destroyed by those human vermin, billions wiped out in a flurry of anti-matter missiles. Those humans, the same species that spelled fear into their hearts at the beginning of the war, were causing a bit of panic in the Covenant.
High Prophet Gollonich floated next to him on the bridge of the dreadnaught.
"Those humans are causing panic. We all saw what their anti-matter missiles did to Glory. What if they find their way to Citadel, or even Temple?", nervously asked Gollonich. Slimmich watched the planet they orbitted, Citadel, with interest. Citadel was the main war factory of the Covenant, the entire planet filled with machine shops and training academies, as the space above was filled with shipyards and orbital batteries. Much like that puny Human planet they glassed years ago...Oh what did they call it...oh, Reach.
Slimmich could understand that it would be drastic if the humans destroyed Citadel. It was the military headquaters of the Covenant, deep in Covenant space. But if they destroyed Temple, the Prophet's homeworld, which directed the entire Covenant kingdom... Slimmich tried to get the image out of his head.
"We must attack", said Slimmich. "This time, we will use all of our military. We'll outnumber them so bad they won't have a chance", said Slimmich.
And Slimmich went back to his meditation area and mentally designed the entire new fleet, with thousands... no, millions, of destroyers, cruisers, frigates, assault carriers and dreadnoughts. Then they would wipe out those humans once and for all...
