Lord Of Combat, Chapter 1
Date: 26 July 2006, 11:01 pm
On that quiet day in the winter, everything
was still. Everyone was quiet and the water in
the river behind the old house had stopped
flowing. They came at dawn and left before
the sun could reach the top of the sky. They
chose him. He was the one that would end the
war and bring peace to the earth. His training
was difficult for him, and he did not
understand what was going on at the time. He
soon forgot about the life he had as a child,
and his spirit was not of the six-year old child
he was. They promised him that when he was
fourteen, he would be the adult that he felt
inside him. During that summer, the pain he
had to intake could not be described. After the
painful weeks that felt like years, that
promise had come true. He was then sent
back to the ones who trained him and raised
him since he was six. They told him that he
was no longer a child. They gave him the
honor of fighting alongside others like him.
However, by the time he was sixteen, most of
the ones like him had perished in battle.
Unlike the others, he survived every intense
battle he was in. This earned him the rank of
Petty Officer Master Chief. Years later, he
was called in to protect a military base from
attack, but had no choice but flee when the
situation got worse. He somehow found his
way to an escape ship located in the base, and
was cryo-genetically frozen during the ship's
take-off.
When he was woken from his cold sleep, he
was assigned a new mission, one that would
take him places he never imagined. He and
several marines landed on a strange ring
world known as "Halo", not knowing what
they might find on this ring. He met up with
the marines and together they formed a small
resistance that would defeat the alien forces
stationed on this "Halo". While there, he
learned secrets of the ancients who created
"Halo", and discovered a new threat. This is
the story of John-117. The man that would
finish the fight.
"Prepare for impact!" The pilot said. The
lifepod's exterior started to crack. For a
single moment everything was quiet, the
marines in the lifepod seemed okay, the pilot
was relaxed and the fire around the lifepod
suddenly seemed to fade out of existence.
Then...
CRASH!
C/Chief, chief! Are you alright?/C
The chief looked around. Puzzled, he made
his way to the nearby hill, not know what was
beyond it.
"Damnit." Sgt. Johnson was standing on top of
a rock near where his lifepod crashed, in
search of other survivors off The Autumn.
A faint voice came over the hills behind him.
"Hello! Are there any survivors out there!?"
The Sgt. rushed over the hills toward the
voice. When he arrived at the top of the hill,
he stopped. The Sgt. was stunned at what he
was seeing. "Sarge!" The voiced yelled.
"Mendoza?" The Sgt. turned."Sarge! You're alive?"
Johnson gave the marine a mean look.
"Oh! I mean OF COURSE you're alive!"
"We have to find the chief."
Mendoza paused. "The Mark IV?"
"Yes." "He's over there."
He pointed. "Oh."
The Master Chief approached the Marines.
Mendoza looked back over at Johnson. "Sarge, got any ideas to how we get out of here?"
Meanwhile....
"Oh crap! Hold on!"
CRASH!
"Arghhh..." "Hello?" "Anyone?"
The Marine turned back facing the lifepod he had just crashed in. "This is not good..."
"C/ Echo-419, we need you to drop your M12. The Master Chief and I are going to try and save some marines. /C"
"Roger that Cortana! Foe Hammer out!" The Pelican's engines thrusted. The Warthog hit the ground and the Pelican zoomed off. The Master Chief entered the driver seat of the hog and started up the vehicle. As the Warthog drove over the grassy planes of Halo, more lifepods were crashing just over the tall mountains that seemed impossible to climb, even for a Warthog. The Master Chief made his way around the mountains, and into a large cave. The Warthog echoed through the long halls of metal cave, but grew silent when the Warthog approached a large room. Inside was a gap. A giant hole in between two ends. C/ Looks like you'll have to find a way across. /C
"What is this thing?" A marine asked.
The other marine looked at him. "Don't know."
They were looking up at an huge structure.
"Hey Chipps." The marine looked back. "Yeah?"
"How did you survive the crash?"
To Be Continued.
