Halo 001, Part One
Date: 23 September 2003, 9:15 PM
PROLOG:
Alpha Centauri Falls. Earth is less than a light-year away. One Cruiser, the Lone Wolf, escapes with the Master Chief, in an attempt to lure the Covenant cruisers away from Earth. And, they stumble across the ring-world Halo 001...
1200 Hours, May 12, 2564(Military Calendar), Unknown Space, UNSC Cruiser Lone Wolf, Bridge
"Admiral, we've emerged from Slipspace," Chimed Merlin, the ship's "Smart" AI Computer. "What the hell is that?" Inquired the Admiral, indicating a ring-shaped construct in the path of the Wolf. "According to scanners, it's a ring-shaped planetoid object. No further data available." "The Covenant Ships?" Replied Jonathan Starblade, as he got up from his command chair, nibbling on a piece of gum. "That's the bad news. The enemy Battle Fleets predicted our course, and they're already in this system. Covenant ships, moving to engage us. Contact in 90 Seconds." Jonathan released a sigh, and spit out his gum. "Well, that's it then. Bring the Wolf to Combat Alert Alpha. I want everyone at their posts." "Aye, sir." The Bridge was lighted up with Red Lights and sirens, and Techs ran to different stations. "And Merlin..." Added Jonathan. "Hm?" A one foot tall hologram was projected out of a cylindrical unit, with buttons on the unit. It was a man in blue robes and a blue cone-shaped hat, in his thirties, with a beard. In his left hand, he held a Magic Book, his right hand was at his side. Codes, numbers, and calculations scrolled across his 'Body.' "Let us give our old friends a Warm Welcome." Jonathan cocked a small smile. Merlin returned the smile. "I've already begun."
Two Marines were sparring with gleaming longswords, to pass the time. They exchanged slashes and cuts. Several others were shooting targets with their MA8B Assault Rifles. Still others were standing around, talking or smoking. Or both. The sirens began to blare, and the intercom cracked on. "ATTENTION, ALL COMBAT PERSONNEL. PLEASE REPORT TO YOUR ACTION STATIONS. REPEAT, COMBAT PERSONNEL REPORT TO ACTION STATIONS ASAP. SECURITY TEAM CHARLIE 274, MOVE TO AIRLOCK C-8," Blared over the speakers, as Marines ran into action. "You heard him, fall in, horsemeat!" Yelled the Black Sergeant on the Scene. The Marines all fell into 6 Straight lines, 70 Marines per line. The Sarge moved through the lines, saying, "Men, once again we must finish what the fly-boys started. We are leaving the ship Platoon, to engage the enemy on solid ground. And when we meet them, we will grind them into burgers, and eat 'em alive! Am.I.right.Marines?" "Sir yes sir!" They all yelled as one. "Uh huh. Damn right I am. Now move it out! Double Time!" The Marines all ran out, and the Sarge walked out too. Before he left, he noted, "This is gonna be a helluva show,"
"Sam, Glad you made it," Said 1st Class Technician Tom, as another tech entered the observation bay, overlooking Cryo 7. "Just got the orders, Tom," Said the other, and he began to work the consoles, "Let's thaw him out, again." "Right, then. Cracking the case in thirty seconds. You better get down there, and brief him when he comes-too," Said Tom.
The Master Chief was pulled out of his dream, and the swirling void was replaced by the inside of a Cryo-tube. The lid opened, and steam rushed out. "Master Chief, sir! You're awake. I gave you a double dose of the wake-up stiff, the feeling should return within minutes," Stated a Technician, in a shiny Yellow suit. "Okay," The Chief said, groggily. "Chief, please look around the room. I need to get a calibration reading for your battle-suit's diagnostics." And so, the tests were conducted. Just like before, the chief felt the strength return to him, oodles at a time. They had finished testing the MJOLNIR III's Shields, and the chief was fully operational, when the Admiral's voice blazed over the Cryo Room's Speakers. "Bridge to Cryo 7. Send the Master Chief to the bridge, immediately." "We'll have to skip the weapons diagnostics, and I-" "On the double, Crewman." "Aye, aye, sir." The Tech turned, to face the Chief. "Let's get you to the bridge, Chief," he said. "Get to you evac group, Sam!" He added to the Tech above. "Ok, I'm outa-" there was pounding on the door to the Observation Bay "- What the... they're trying to get through the door! Security! Intruders, in Cryo 7!" The door to the Observation Bay blew open with an explosion, and Sam drew his loaded Pistol. A Grunt emerges, and consequently suffers 4 bullets to the chest. The Grunt doubled over, and fell to the ground. A pool of blue blood slowly gets larger, till the doorway was drenched in it. "Sam! Are you Ok?" "Yah, I got 'em." "C'mon!" The Chief and the Tech ran off towards the Bridge.
