Stardate 2374.0612 (June 12, 2374), 0800 hours
In transit to Vesuvi system, Haven colony.

The USS Dauntless flew through the void of subspace at a stately Warp 5, a little over half of her full speed. On the bridge of the massive Galaxy-class cruiser, Captain Robert Martin sipped an ice-cold Coke and studied a PADD with the ship's daily personnel requests on the screen, checking off transfer requests and generally doing busywork. The bridge crew mainly performed their duties in silence, but if one listened carefully, they could hear the helmswoman and the tactical officers discussing tactics, Chief Engineer Brex's mumbling at a balky circuit board, and Science Officer Micheal Ortiz eagerly manipulating his station.

"Mike, it's space dust. Maybe a few radiation spikes. But normal nonetheless. Why are you scanning like you've just discovered the Holy Grail?"
"Sir, this space dust may be normal to you, but I think tha....Sir, I'm picking up a radiation surge ahead, looks like a....
"Sir! Onscreen!" First Officer Larson pointed forward, at the main viewscreen. A white energy field was directly ahead of them.
"It's pulling us in!" Ensign Rhoades shouted. The young woman tapped furiously at her helm station, but the ship still drifted toward the white cloud.
"Shut down all power to warp engines, Brex!" Captain Martin commanded
"No good, sir, the relays won't disengage!"
"Shields!"
The ship drifted into the field and vanished.

Deep Space
UNSC Dauntless

Captain Robert Martin stood on the command deck, staring up at the bow of his Halcyon-class cruiser. The old ship had been moderatly damaged in their last encounter with the Covenant, and the improvised energy shields they had recieved at their last refit had overloaded. A party of engineers in EVA suits worked like madmen to repair the damaged circuitry before the Covanent came looking for them.
"Status on the repairs, Patton?" He asked, seemingly into thin air.
A green, pudgy AI materialized, complete with a stubby brown cigar in his mouth. "For full repairs, at least six hours, but the shields will be up in about ten minutes. Not that they did much good."
"Pat, if you'd rather take on a covenant carrier without them, I'll evacuate and let you pick us up. After we call in backup, of course."
"I never said that the shield was bad," huffed the AI. "In fact, it's an improvement. But I'd rather put the power it uses into the MACs."
"So would I, but we'd burn out the coils. And the shield blocks the plasma beams."
As the words left his mouth, a mysterious white cloud appeared directly in front of the Dauntless. A strange ship shot out of the field and came to a relative halt directly ahead of the Dauntless.
"Patton, charge the guns and get those crewmen inside NOW! Prepare a squadron of Longswords, and contact Fleet. Ensign Brown, get that ship on COM. I want to know who those people are and what they're doing in ten seconds."

USS Dauntless
Unknown Position and Stardate

Captain Martin was the first of the bridge crew to awaken, but not by much. Already, Ensign Rhoades and Lt. Savali were groaning, and Brex was picking himself up. Larson was sprawled on the floor, and Ortiz was draped over his console.
"Sir, unknown ship at 30 kilometers, holding steady." Lt. Savali was the first to notice that they were not alone.
"Position checks are gone, but the stellar-recognition program's saying it knows where we are...but the time's off..." The ensign trailed off as she began working.
"Sir, that ship is charging...magnetic cannons...how premitive? Their shields are coming online...they're hailing."
"Onscreen." Robert looked around. Hopefully the other ship's captain wouldn't notice the chaos on the bridge.
A red-haired man in an unfamiliar uniform appeared onscreen. He was standing with a tactical disply behind him on a bridge that appeared to be quite cramped. Behind the translucent display, Robert could make out his own ship. Interesting. The man spoke.
"This is Captain Martin of the UNSC Dauntless. You have exactly ten seconds to explain who you are and why I shouldn't turn you into Swiss cheese."
Robert was stunned. The other captain looked just like him, down to the body movements. What was this?
"This is Captain Robert Martin of the Federation starship USS Dauntless. We were wondering the same thing."
"That doesn't answer my question. Who are you?"
Ensign Rhoades was gesturing that she had something for him.
"Mute audio, Brex." He stepped over to the helm and looked at the display. 2553?
"Sir, the position is the same as before we entered the anomaly, but the date seems to have moved up."
"And the rest of the Federation's gone. I'm not picking up any subspace transmissions." Lt. Savali had been working too.
"Ortiz, what happened?"
"It seems like a dimensional rift, sir. One that works through space and time, apparently. That's all I know, sir."
"Brex, unmute."
Captain Robert Martin faced the screen and stared his counterpart in the eye.
"Mind if I come over and discuss this?"
The grim-looking man on the cramped bridge who looked just like him nodded. "That would be acceptable. Meet on my ship in twenty minutes. Martin out." The screen went black.
"Brex, alert the active shuttle crew and a security detachment. Tell them to meet me on the hangar deck in five minutes. Mike, scan that ship until we can replicate one in our sleep. The rest of you, get a report together. Robert stepped into the turbolift.
"Hangar Bay One."

The shuttle slid across the threshold of the armored door and softly landed on a brightly-lit landing pad. The heavy door rumbled shut, and atmosphere whooshed into the bay. Thirty seconds later, a light on the shuttle door snapped on, indicating that the area was pressurized. The shuttle hatch lowered, and Captain Robert Martin got his first glimpse of the mysterious ship's interior. It was premitive, reminding him of the Starfleet Museum. The bulkheads were all braced by thick pillars of a grayish alloy, and there were beams everywhere. The shuttle sensors registered no energy flow through the metal, indicating that they had no forcefields. A trio of boxy craft rested on wheels on the nearest landing pad, their noses pointed outwards, with thrusters facing backwards. A nearby hatch rolled open, and a tall armored man stepped through. His presence caught the eyes of the Starfleet security team, and they unsafed their phaser rifles, but kept them at port arms. The armored man, now reinforced by a dozen regular men, did the same with his weapon. He stepped forward.
"I have been ordered to escort you to the bridge. Alone." The Starfleet guards glanced at Robert, but he did not give the signal to fire. The SPARTAN noticed the guard's reaction.
"You will not be harmed. Nor will your men. However, you must leave your weapon here."
Robert looked around and spoke with the voice of command he had learned at the Academy. "Fine. My shuttle and men will remain here. I will go alone." He took out his phaser and tossed it into the shuttle.
"Corporal, escort the Captain to the bridge." A tall man with an Australian look stepped forward. Two others followed. The Chief and the remaining nine Marines were to stay and guard the shuttle.
"If you would follow me, sir, I'll show you to the bridge."
Robert turned and followed the Corporal.

Master Chief John-117 was very curious about these people. The radar scans had been unable to penetrate the shielding the strange ship used, and the design looked like a work of art, not a military ship. However, their security team looked alert, and their weapons looked capable enough. He asumed that they used plasma or some other energy to power their systems, since they had no obvious magazines or mechanical parts. Puzzling. If this was an ONI operation, then why didn't the SPARTAN teams have this kind of gear? Most puzzling of all to him were the security team themselves. One was about 6'5'', his hight without armor, and had his sandy brown hair and eyes. Even the same skin tone. The other had blonde hair and pale skin, reminding him of Will. What was this?

The bridge of the UNSC Dauntless was even more cramped than the view from the bridge of Robert's ship had indicated. Almost thirty officers worked at old-style stations spaced along the walls, and in a middle area. The captain had no chair, instead, a holotank and a transparent map dominated his position, as well as a small control panel. Below and forward of the captain, a ladder extended to a narrow walkway, which connected to two seats with holographic panels. The two crewmen here literally sat outside the ship. Robert stared up at the massive bow, and then at his own ship.
"Great view, isn't it. First-timers on a Halcyon usually do that." The speaker was the other captain. His shirt was covered in ribbons, and looked more formal than the standard Starfleet uniform. "I've been in contact with my commander. He's ordered me to take your ship to Sol for investigation."
Robert got over his shock at seeing himself, in another universe. "I've got a lot of questions for you before I set corse for a place that may not be safe for my ship or crew. First, who are you?"
Captain Martin answered. "We are the United Nations Space Command. We are charged with defense of human space and the..."
A man jumped out of his seat and ran to the commanders. "Sir, radar just picked up three Covanent ships on an intercept course. They've got hot plasma. Time to intercept 3 minutes."
"Who are the Covenant?"
Captain Martin turned. "The reason humanity is facing extinction."
Robert was stunned at this revalation. The Federation was prospering, the fleet was stronger than ever, even the Romulans were peaceful...and he knew that humanity wasn't facing extinction. At least not is his reality.
Captain Martin turned around. "Captain, I'm afraid that you're not going to be able to get back to your ship. All bays are sealed, and unless you can teleport, you're stuck here. Unfortunatly, chances of survival in battles with the Covenant when outnumbered are low."
Robert reached for his commbadge, but stopped himself. Why show them transporters now? He tapped the device and began speaking. "Commander, engage and disable those ships. Target and fuse their weapons and engines." Commander Larson ws fully capable of fighting the ship herself.
"Sir, Covenant lead ship is firing...

Halo: The Final Frontier Pt. 3

The bridge of the UNSC Dauntless was silent. Everyone knew that their chances were slim. However, they powered their MAC cannons and calculated firing points and times. The rhythmic pulse of consoles and the beeping of automated warnings of impending combat were the only sounds. The tomblike silence was shattered by a chirp.

"Dauntless to Martin, we can't get a transporter lock on you. The signal is too weak to transport you completely."
"Understood, Dauntless. Hail those ships and warn them off."

On hearing this, Captain Martin whirled and faced the Starfleeter.
"You honestly think that the Covenant, the most bloodthirsty species in the known galaxy, will listen to a warning? These are the same scum that wiped out Reach! And Harvest! And every other Outer Colony this side of Earth! You'd better start shooting, because they sure will soon."
Robert was shocked. He began to reach for his commbadge to ask if the Covanant had responded when he saw a bright glow on the bow of the lead ship. A blue bolt of energy detached itself from the glow, and blasted towards the USS Dauntless. The strange beam impacted the ship at the base of the saucer, but the shields held.
"Dauntless to Martin, that Covenant weapon is pretty good, but we can take a few dozen shots like that. Shields at ninty-seven percent and recharging."
Captain Martin looked at the Starfleet ship incredulously. Most UNSC vessels disintegrated with a single plasm beam. This ship had shaken it off as if it had been a tiny particle of dust. "Fire the MACs off, and time Archer pods One and Three to impact a second after the MACs hit." The weapons crew confirmed the order, and a few seconds later, two shadows shot out of the maws of the cannons. One of the six-hundred-ton darts struck the lead Covenant on the bow, penetrated the shield, and severed a large piece of hull plate. A spread of eight Archers only made the hole larger, but the damage was minor. The other MAC blasted through the shield of the second ship, but it no longer had the energy to penetrate the hull. It bounced once and floated into the depths of space.
Captain Robert Martin, Starfleet, was fixated on his ship. The tactical officer was bringing the bow torpedoes to bear on the Covenant, and the shields were continuing to absorb the plasma fire.
"Captain, we've got a good lock on the alien ships. Requesting orders."
"Fuse their weapons and engines. Maybe they'll surrender."
Red phasers streaked out and contacted the hulls of all three Covenant ships. The beams sliced through the hulls of the ships without meeting any real resistance, and the hulls rapidly began to melt around the points of impact. The dorsal plasma ports on all three ships were converted into blackened wreckage instantly. The lead ship, already hit by the MAC and missiles, lost control and plummeted into deep space. However, the second cruiser launched a plasma torpedo at the UNSC ship. A beeping Time-To-Impact countdown started.
"Martin to Dauntless, detonate that torpedo!"
A second before impact with the barely-shielded UNSC ship, the plasma field ceased to exist, its containment field shorn apart by a high-energy blast. As the crews on both ships cheered, the Starfleet ship was wracked by a dozen blasts. A Covenant carrier was attacking the stern, and it was launching fighters and boarding pods. The shields of the Starfleet ship held, but a red glow permeated every impact. The energy flow was weakening.
Lieutenant Savalli saw the Covenant ship appear on sensors. He quickly punched in a command on his console, and a set of six photon torpedos shot out of the stern tubes. The antimatter charges ripped apart the Covenant ship like a bursting grenade. The massive blast consumed most of the pods, but several had already docked on the UNSC ship's hull.
Robert watched the battle in silence. His Starfleet ship was obviously the priority, but the UNSC ship was too weak to defend itself. A few token projectiles against disabled ships was the UNSC's main contribution. But that was the limit of their abilites.
"Sir, we have a window of opportunity to get you off that ship." The voice of his chief engineer echoed in the cramped chamber.
"Energize." Robert knew that this battle needed two ships. Or maybe three.
"Sir, I'm reading a dozen incoming subspace signatures...all Federation! I'm reading three Excelsiors, two Ambassadors, a Sacremento-class Mobile Combat Support Station, a Steamrunner, a Nebula, a Defiant, an Intrepid, and the Sovereign! and an Akira! All incoming...and another thirty-eight Covenant ships."
"ETA on the Fleet?"
"Ten minutes. The Covenant will be here in five."
This sort of battle was unavoidable. The Daunlesses would have to stand their ground.
"Commander, prepare to separate the ship."
